Adelaide Botanic Garden Tours
Covering more than 124 acres (50 hectares) between the North Terrace and Botanic Park, the Adelaide Botanic Garden are among the city’s most stunning green spaces. With tree-lined walkways, water lily and lotus ponds, and flower gardens blooming with roses and dahlias, this is an idyllic place for a walking tour.
The Basics
Many Adelaide sightseeing tours include a stroll through the Botanic Garden, and a visit is easily combined with neighboring attractions such as the Adelaide Zoo and the Botanic Park. Highlights include the historic Palm House, the Bicentennial Conservatory, the Amazon Water Lily Pavilion, and the on-site Museum of Economic Botany, as well as a series of beautiful flower gardens.
Things to Know Before You Go
- Admission to the garden is free, and guided walking tours are held daily.
- Visitor facilities in the garden include restrooms, a garden shop, kiosk, and a café-restaurant.
- The Botanic Garden is wheelchair accessible, and accessible parking and restrooms are available.
How to Get to There
The Adelaide Botanic Garden lies just northeast of downtown Adelaide—an easy 10-minute walk from the center. There are four entrances to the garden on the North Terrace, Plane Tree Drive, Hackney Road, and Frome Road.
When to Get There
The garden is open daily, although opening times vary throughout the year. Each season brings its own unique colors: Springtime is particularly beautiful with the flower gardens in full bloom, while summer events include a moonlight cinema and open-air art exhibitions.
Plants and Flowers at the Botanic Garden
From lotus flowers to ancient Moreton Bay fig trees and exotic cacti, there are thousands of plant varieties at the Botanic Garden. Native Australian plants grow around the First Creek Wetland, while the Mediterranean Garden is devoted to tropical flora and the Little Sprouts Kitchen Garden is filled with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs. There’s also the Garden of Health featuring plants with medicinal properties, and a series of National and International rose gardens.
