The Basics

The museum is one of Amsterdam’s top attractions and tickets often sell out—it is strongly recommended that travelers pre-purchase a ticket for a particular time slot. In fact, from 9am to 3:30pm, the museum is open only to visitors with a timed ticket purchased online.

Amsterdam: Anne Frank walking tour
The company was super great and communicated so well with us before we even arrived in town. We had the tour guide Stan who was so amazing. He was very knowledgeable and sweet. We loved him. It was a small group of two couples, so a more personal experience. We got to see and learn about many more things than we had hoped to. It was very great. We really had a great time and experience. Definitely recommend if you have the time.

The History of Amsterdam: Anne Frank & Jewish Culture Private Tour
My daughter and I traveled in January, took this tour early the morning after we arrived. It was a leisurely walk, and the guide was very informative. My daughter was 12 at the time, and the guide was careful to tailor information to that age and expand where I encouraged. It was a great few hours.

One of the best tours in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam: Anne Frank walking tour
This was a great tour! The weather was brutal as it rained most of the time; however, our tour guide Stan was awesome. He took us to neighborhoods in Amsterdam and gave us a very real perspective of what life was like for the Jewish community who lived in fear and despair between 1939 - 1945. While we have always been aware of the Holocaust, Stan gave us an in depth perspective of what Anne Frank and her family endured. This tour is definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I would highly recommend this tour!

Amsterdam: Anne Frank walking tour
We wanted to learn more about our Jewish roots and decided to do this tour. Thank you Stan for this amazing and meaningful experience! It was a well organized, interesting and informative tour. Anne Frank's story is simply heartbreaking and this tour really opened our eyes to what happened in the Netherlands during the war. It is really important to learn more about this important part of Dutch history. It was definitely the highlight of our short stay in Amsterdam. The guide Stan was very passionate, friendly and entertaining. We walked away having learned so much more. BOOK THIS TOUR!

Amsterdam: Anne Frank walking tour
Our guide Stan knew so much about Anne Frank, Amsterdam and the Dutch culture. Because of the coronavirus the streets were very empty what made it even a better experience. We already visited the Anne Frank museum last year but we learned so much more with this tour. A must-do when visiting Amsterdam. Special thanks to our guide Stan.

Wonderful tour with our tour guide Stan. The tour was very informative, understandable and easy to follow. Stan has so much knowledge about the history of Anne Frank and Amsterdam. Especially when we asked questions, we noticed how much knowledge he has!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • A visit to the Anne Frank House is an emotional experience, and appropriate solemnity should be observed.

  • You won’t need much time inside—30 minutes should be enough for you to see the interior and pause for a moment of reflection.

  • If you have time, stop in next door, at Prinsengracht 265-267, to see temporary exhibits.

When to Get There

The Anne Frank House is open every day of the year except for Yom Kippur, with extended evening hours during summer. Lines can be long at peak times, especially in the early afternoon, when you may have to wait an hour or more to get in. To avoid the crowds, arrive at the museum entrance either early or late in the day. Keep in mind that last entry is 30 minutes before closing time and the line closes earlier—depending on how busy it is, this can be as early as two hours before closing time.

Jewish Amsterdam

To get a clearer picture of Anne Frank’s life, both before World War II and during the Netherlands’ occupation by Nazi Germany, consider exploring some of Amsterdam’s other important sites in the Jewish Quarter (Jodenbuurt). A guided walking tour focused on Anne Frank’s life visits her family home and school, while an Amsterdam canal cruise along the Canal Ring (Grachtengordel) gives you a unique perspective from the water and a self-guided audio tour lets you learn about the sights at your own pace.
