The Basics

As one of Bangkok’s biggest tourist attractions, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is included in numerous sightseeing tours. Most tours include a guided visit of the Bangkok Grand Palace, as well as options to combine the temple with a River of Kings canal cruise or a visit to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market or Bangkok’s largest flower market. If you’re based in Hua Hin, you can see the temple and other city highlights on a day trip to Bangkok.

A memorable experience!
Both the guide and the driver worked well together. The driver was punctual and professional. We were a little early arriving at the Royal Palace so he gave us a little sightseeing tour of Bangkok. Our guide was interesting, inciteful and had a great sense of humor. Thank you again!

Bangkok's Grand Palace Complex and Wat Phra Kaew Tour
Tour guide Peter was prompt, funny and informative. We joined a bigger group in a bus, tour ended in a gem factory. It was ok, venue was at least air conditioned on a very hot day and allowed us time to use clean facilities or take a breather. We were then shepherded to various vans to send us off to our next preferred desitnation. Sunday at the Grand Palace and temples were very crowded, suggest to go on a weekday.

Private Tour: Bangkok's Grand Palace Complex and Wat Phra Kaew
Excellent private tour, from start to finish. Having an English-speaking tour guide meant that we were first in line, and did not miss anything. She guided us around and told us all about the Grand Palace Complex, and Wat Phra Kaew. Stunning sights, and excellent tour guide.

Excellent excursion. Pick up on time . Guide very good and with humour. Very interesting site. Temples on the way very good. The buses in Thailand need to be renewed. Lunch on the cruise food was average but cruise interesting as the view from the river was a must see.

Private Tour: Bangkok's Grand Palace Complex and Wat Phra Kaew
THe private tour was just fine,,, The only problem was booking it through VIATOR they failed to inform the tour company about my reservation and sent me my notices a day after each of my tours... I would not use VIATOR to book your tours!!!

Damnern Saduak Floating Market, Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keo Tour from Bangkok
Thanks to the Guide - we enjoyed this tour - informative-full of fun - morning part of the tour - worthy 2.5hr drive each way. The afternoon part of the tour provided us with the inside knowledge of the basis of Buddhism - although we expected more from the visit to Emerald Buddha Shrine - and expectations of closer participation in mourning of the deceased King.

Kat was Amazing. She was informative, kind, not pushy. The driver Mr. Nat was also very helpful, available too. Very helpful that she knows the locals and her way around to good food. Also made it customizable since we were the only couple for the trip. IT was very comfortable, and definitely would recommend for anyone.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Emerald Buddha Temple is a must-see for spiritual travelers and first-time visitors to Bangkok.

  • The temple maintains a strict dress code: shorts, short skirts, and sleeveless t-shirts are not permitted on the temple grounds.

  • Be prepared to remove your shoes before entering the temple.

  • While the lawn and gardens of Bangkok’s Grand Palace are accessible to wheelchair users, the temple interior is not due to a series of steps leading inside.

When to Get There

To avoid the biggest crowds, plan to visit first thing in the morning or after lunch, when most tour buses have departed. Sometimes the temple closes to the public when the Grand Palace is being used for state functions.

The Buddha’s Robes

Pay attention to the robes draped over the 26-inch (66-centimeter) Emerald Buddha perched high up on its gilded shrine. At the beginning of each season, the king changes the monastic robes to suit the season: hot, rainy, or cool.
