RM Tour was born from the idea of transforming visits to the University of Coimbra into a unique experience, transforming the guided tour into a pleasant experience of knowledge and cultural enrichment in a way that is interesting. Therefore, we always seek in our company to join the beautiful history of the University of Coimbra with the present and its customs that still permeate our institution today. This was all made possible by the training we have in the areas of history, sociology and tourism. Our collaborators are former students of the University of Coimbra which brings to our services a great appreciation and knowledge of it. If you like the idea of continuing your visit to the city of Coimbra, you can book our other tour, just search on Tripdavisor for "Guided visit to the University and city of Coimbra"

Conímbriga Roman Ruins & Museum

Conímbriga Roman Ruins & Museum

The location site of Conímbriga was populated by the romans around 139 B.C., in a region that contained previous signs of prehistoric occupation, establishing the prosperous capital of Lusitânia. During the rule of Emperor Augusto, Conímbriga grew into a more urban scale including an amphitheater, thermal baths and Roman Forum. Though the most impressive remains of that period are the domus – manor houses – and the insulae. These structures are so well preserved that you will feel like travelling back in time! We will visit the locations of the old town of Conímbriga while learning about the daily livings during that period and understand the strategic location on the territory that later would become Portugal. At the monographic museum we will admire the objects that were used by the people on their daily tasks!

Jewish History of Coimbra

Jewish History of Coimbra

This is an exclusive of mine, product of continuous research of GO! Walks Portugal guides and city archaeologists through the years! During this guided tour I will walk you through the memories of Jewish Coimbra. The first signs of the Jewish presence in Coimbra date back to the 10th Century, signaled by the transaction of land properties in a nearby village. We know that later, during the rule of D. Afonso Henriques, some guarantees and lands were granted to this community, which expanded through all the Portuguese territory up to the 16th century. More than just buildings or material testimonies of the Jewish presence, this is a tour about the rich history and culture of this community.

Conimbriga and The Roman Tour
"Portugal has a long history and this tour with Alfredo took us back to the Roman occupation from two centuries BCE until about 300 CE. We were the only two on the tour so it was really like a private tour. Alfredo was with us the entire time, answering all of our questions as we traveled. We actually had three stops on this tour. The first was a spring and well in Condeixa, where the Romans got water for their settlements, transported by aqueducts. This spring is still in use by the residents today. The second stop was at the Portugal Roman Museum in Sico, filled with interactive exhibits about the Roman civilization in Portugal. We had ample time to view the exhibits and get prepared for the final stop of the tour—the Roman ruins in Conimbriga. These were positively amazing! It’s a huge area to explore, but only about 35% of the area has been excavated. At its height, the settlement was home to about 6000 people. It included some extravagant homes of the wealthy, with private baths, as well as commercial and other residential areas with public baths. Many floor mosaics are still preserved. This was an excellent afternoon to explore this part of Portugal’s ancient history."..."
