Km 104 Carretera Puerto Juarez-Tulum, Akumal, Cozumel

The Basics

Most Akumal tours include round-trip transportation from your hotel and leave from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and other Riviera Maya destinations. Scuba diving and snorkeling tours are a good way to experience Akumal’s coral reef and resident sea turtle population, while jungle ATV and zipline excursions allow you to experience the town’s nearby jungle. Some combination tours visit Akumal along with the Tulum ruins and various cenotes (underground pools).

Great experience at a Cenote and with sea turtles
This experience was fantastic. Roco was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we were safe at all times. Everything was on time and efficient. The cenote was beautiful, and swimming with the sea turtles, off which we saw many, was a real treat. All this being the case, I would highly and happily recommend this excursion to anybody looking to do something fun and memorable at Riviera Maya.

Hernel the tour guide

From Riviera Maya Visit a Cenote and Swim with Turtles in Akumal
Hernel was an excellent guide. He picked us up very promptly at the meeting point and time. He explained so much history and took the time to show each one of all the little parts of the caverns. He took us to three different Cenotes and told us history about each one, Tortuga, Jaguar and Tres Zapotes. Tortuga and Tres Zapotes were absolutely gorgeous and were so much fun to swim in. Both have high jump parts and Hernel videos and took pictures of our jump for us. After the Cenote swim we went to Akumal and swam with the turtles. At Akumal, another guide joined Hernel to lead the guide to see the turtles. We got see a sting ray along with some of the turtles. After the turtle swim we went to a local spot for lunch. Hernel had made a sandwich to snack on and had plenty of water and drinks for us. Hernel is an absolutely amazing tour guide. Zak is the wonderful driver of the tour bus and did a fantastic job driving us around. An absolutely wonderful tour with the best tour guides!!

Amazing day out

Cenote Tour and Akumal
It was a great trip all round but we did have to spend a lot of time in the van as we had to pick up and drop off other groups and wait Around in a shop while everyone got organised. We left our hotel at 7:30am and didn’t arrive at the cenote until 11:45am. It was an unbelievable day out and our tour guide Herlan was amazing, funny and gave us very good information/history about everything we did. I would definitely recommend doing this as it was well worth it even with the waiting. We saw several Turtles at Akumal and the Cenote was so beautiful! Herlan also took us on a surprise visit to the glass and chocolate factory where we also did free tequila tasting which was a lovely end to the tour. Zac the driver was also a lovely man and they make a great team.

Cenote Tour and Akumal
Everything about this tour was great, the driver showed up on time and got us to every event early so we had lots of time to enjoy our excursion, one other van broke down and our driver went to help him for about 20-30 minutes but he gave us the time back and bought us free pizza for the wait.....gorge and herlan were so awesome they really made you feel welcome and showed you how to have a good time

Tulum and Akumal From Cancun
The good: The tour company was in frequent communication about when and where to meet the guide; guide was upbeat and knowledgeable; local guide at Tulum was enjoyable. The frustrating: With about 12 people in our snorkel group, it was difficult to stay close enough to the guide to be able to see turtles. The excursion also included a professional photographer, who was helpful and friendly... but then we had to sit through the obligatory "please buy our photo dvd" presentation.

The cenote choice is excellent. Our guide was great, knowledgeable and entertaining. We saw five turtles, including a huge one as well as lots of fish, beautiful corrals, stingrays and cuttlefish.

For the most part it was a good trip! Though we had to pay 10 US dollars per person at the entrance and we didnt bring any cash with us. Thought they allowed us to pay when they dropped us off at our hotel We saw a one sting ray and one turtle.... way happy with that cause you cant predict wild life but o would have likes longer to snorkle!

Of all the tours we took on this trip, this was the greatest value. Our guide, Oscar was fantastic. He stressed care and respect of the environment including the cenotes and the turtles' own mileau. This was more than a tour; it was a spiritual learning experience. Highly recommend taking this tour with Oscar!

Memorable Experience on Our Honeymoon!
Vanessa_P, Apr 2021
From Riviera Maya Visit a Cenote and Swim with Turtles in Akumal
My husband and I booked this excursion for our Honeymoon in Tulum based on recommendations from close friends. Communication prior to arrival was somewhat strange. There was a change in pickup location from a local super market to a nearby Tulum sign, then back to the super market. They communicated this through email and a phone call. We were picked up from the super market on a private bus with other guests and taken on the excursion. Our experience from there forward was wonderful! We went to casa tortuga and visited a cenote. Then the guide transported us to Akumal beach where our snorkel dive took place. It was amazing! An experience my husband and I will never forget. Overall, I didn’t give the experience 5 stars because of the strange pickup method, but the excursion itself was very memorable. Highly recommend!
