Yaxhá, Peten

Practical Info

You’ll need a 4WD to visit Yaxhá on your own. The main site is located about 12km (7mi) from the pavement, and it can be treacherous going in rainy season. Because the site is still relatively undeveloped, you’ll want to bring your own water and food.

Your entry fee covers all sites within Yaxhá-Nakum-Naranjo National Park, an enormous 37,160-hectare (144-square-mile) expanse that includes three other major sites: Topoxte, on the south shore of the Lake Yaxhá; Nakum, an ancient port on the Holmul River; and Naranjo, about 20km (12mi) north, Yaxhá’s long-time rival. While you can visit all of them, poor roads and worse maps make that an adventure best undertaken with a guide.

Tikal and Yaxha
Everything went according to plan. I'm glad I did Yaxha. Whereas Tikal is covered with tourists, I almost had Yaxha to myself. Guides were very knowledgeable and I learned alot about the civilization and architecture.

Yaxha VIP Private Day Tour All-Inclusive
Yaxha is the less well-known that its companion city, Tikal. Therefore it is less visited, but equally striking and amazing. The tour with Elmer Alvarado of Tikal VIP Tours was outstanding. He provided lots of information, transportation and a place for local lunch. We enjoyed our time with him and Yaxha after a day at Tikal.

Yaxha VIP Private Day Tour All-Inclusive
We warmly recommend a tour with this company (especially Calvin for us), Calvin is a guide a passioned by history and nature of hi country that’s why he share so easily his knowledge! First we only wanted to see Yaxha but at the end of the day we had booked for the next morning the Tikal sunrise with them. In addition to the tour he arranged us plenty of facilities (transport to the airport...) Fidias (the driver) was as well a very professional and kind. Thank again for the unforgettable experience!
