City of David National Park
Guided tours of the City of David National Park take you from a panoramic vista point overlooking Jerusalem to the underground depths of the ancient city. Along the way, learn the religious and historical significance of the city at active archeological excavation sites and take an adventurous walk through Hezekiah's Tunnel—a cave-like passage that channels water from Gihon Springs outside the city to the protected Pool of Siloam.
Things to Know Before You Go
The City of David is a must-see for Israel’s religious visitors and history buffs.
Bring water shoes and a flashlight if you plan to walk through Hezekiah's Tunnel.
A tour of the City of David can be combined with a visit to the adjacent Old City.
There is a gift shop and bathrooms at the park visitor center.
How to Get There
Parking is limited near the City of David National Park so it is easiest to arrive by public transportation or book a tour that includes pickup and drop-off at your hotel. You can take bus lines 1, 2, or 38 or the free shuttle from First Station to the Old City’s Dung Gate. From there, it is a 3-minute walk to the City of David.
When to Get There
In winter, the City of David is open from morning to early evening Sunday–Thursday, and it closes in early afternoon on Fridays. In summer, its hours are extended. The park is closed on Saturdays, and hours vary on national and religious holidays. Due to Jerusalem’s hot, crowded summers and cold winters, it can be best to visit in spring or fall.
The City of David’s Nighttime Spectacular
Each night, the City of David is brought to life through a cinematic show projected onto antiquities at the Royal Acropolis and near the Western Wall. Attend the starlit showing for an entertaining and educational rendition of the destruction and rebuilding of Jerusalem. For the show, lights and images are projected onto the very sites where the story took place more than 3,000 years ago.
