Since so much time on Bonaire is spent enjoying the water and sand, it’s nice to escape to the hills for a minute and get a view of the island. At Seru Largu, or “Large Hill,” visitors are met with a sweeping view of the island’s western shoreline, where the small island of Klein Bonaire hovers just off the turquoise coast. Wild goats, and sometimes iguanas, are visible up on the hill, as is the massive monument with its signature, yellow and white cross. Since Bonaire’s landscape is dusty and dry, the view looks out over fields of cactus and sand running out to the coast, and is one of the island’s best places to watch the sunset or stars come out. Every year on New Years Eve, island locals gather up here to watch the clusters of fireworks, and at any time of year it’s a highlight of taking a small group tour of the island.

See the highlights of Bonaire on a half-day, small group tour. If you look at the itinerary you will see the start till we reach 1000 step (Don’t worry, it’s actually only 74 steps.) Then it‘s on to the Flamingo Sanctuary, Salt Pier, and finally, the slave huts to view the living quarters of workers forced to labor in the nearby salt mines during the 1800s.

Rincon Visit with Local Guide

Rincon Village is the oldest village on Bonaire and rich in history. It is also the oldest continual community within the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Originally settled by the Spanish in the early 1500’s, Rincon was strategically nestled within a valley to ward off impending danger from pirates and other threats.   In the 17th century, slaves were brought to Bonaire and worked tending crops and the salt pans until 1863. Living in Rincon, the slave men would weekly walk a 7 hour journey south for work and then return on weekends to gather supplies at Mangazina di Rei (King’s store house), and visit their families.  We will stop at the Kadushi distillery where you will be able to taste the local cactus liquor made on Bonaire for free. After visiting Kadushi we will be stopping at our last stop - a local restaurant called Posada. Here you can try native island food and get a taste for the local flavor. Rincon Visit with Local Guide
"We had a blast exploring Rincon and the middle half of the island with GiGi! She was informative, and took us all over the middle of the island. It included 1000 Steps, flamingoes just near the park, the Cross overlooking Kralejndik, the Cadushy Distillery, and an incredible place for a bite to eat during our visit. You could tell how much she loved the island and loved sharing it with others.
