The basics

Standing across from the almost equally grand Malayan Railway Administration Building, Arthur Benison Hubback’s dramatic architecture makes the old station one of Kuala Lumpur’s standout landmarks. Surprisingly, the interior has a classic British iron and glass roof. Most Kuala Lumpur city tours pass by here, often with a photo stop, or you can pick up a hop-on hop-off bus tour. The KTM Komuter commuter rail service still visits the station, but Malaysian intercity trains arrive at KL Sentral.

Kuala Lumpur (17 Attractions) Sightseeing Tour from Port Klang
It was very comfortable just we two and the driver. For good luck there was an indian festival in the big temple many colours, a lot of friendly people so we did not mind the 276 steps. We could manage the time according to our wishes and so we also had lunch in a very good indian restaurant without tourists. Kuala Lumpur is a very nice town, clean, green and friendly.

Private Layover Tour from Airport : Best of Kuala Lumpur
Perfect way to explore Kl if you have 6-8 hours to spare. Driver was in contact with us through whatsapp as we landed. He knew the approximate passport control timing and picked us up on time. English speaking driver and took us around as we wanted plus as per the itenery. Everything covered and guided as we were driven thru kl. Thanks a lot. Rather do this than staying in airport hotel.

Kuala Lumpur (17 Attractions) Sightseeing Tour from Port Klang
This was an acceptable alternative to what the ship shore excursions had to offer. Picked up early by driver/guide and headed off to first attraction stop namely Batu Caves. Good to be there early as even then it was busy. Remainder of trip mostly short 10/15 photo and stretch leg opportunities which gave us a nice taste of KL on our first visit. Returned to ship in good time for departure.

How to get there

As you would expect, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station sits in the heart of downtown Kuala Lumpur. Catch the KTM Komuter service from Kuala Lumpur Sentral station, or walk northwest for about a mile (1.5 kilometers). It’s an easy stroll from Chinatown.

Heritage Highlights of Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station uses a style called Indo-Saracenic, developed when the British ruled India, with elements from Moorish and Indian architecture. The architect’s other Kuala Lumpur buildings include the opulent, brick-built Jamek Mosque (Masjid Jamek), the old post office, and the Railway Administration Building. For a dose of authentic Malay heritage, visit the Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman (sometimes known as the Malay House), or take a walking tour of the Kampung Baru area.
