Isla Catalina, Punta Cana

The Basics

Catalina Island is home to a diverse ecosystem of sand dunes, mangroves, and reefs populated by many species of sea birds and tropical fish. The island’s main draws are its white sandy beaches and its beautiful underwater ecosystem. Snorkeling and scuba diving are particularly good here, and the Wall and the Aquarium are two of the top dive sites.

Tours from the Dominican Republic’s mainland (originating in Bayahibe, Punta Cana, La Romana, or even as far-flung as Santo Domingo) are plentiful and usually last all day. Some tours combine a trip to Catalina Island with visits to other area highlights such as Altos de Chavon, the more populated Saona Island, or Casa de Campo. Snorkeling tours and scuba diving tours usually include use of equipment.

Great day and experience
It was a great day from the pick up at the hotel until dropped back off. We sat on the boat for quite a while before getting all other customers to location but once we got going it was great. There was music and dancing on the boat. The staff were great, so friendly and accommodating. The snorkeling was amazing, so crystal clear. The time on the island was relaxing and the return to port was very nice.

Full Day to Catalina Island in Catamaran with Snorkeling
All the instructors, servers and helpers on boat and the island were very polite and helpful. The food was good also. The snorkeling was a great experience just a little scary in my opinion lol

Great friendly staff. The snorkle, mask, and fins were in good working order. The boat was clean and organized. Food on the beach was surprisingly very good. I didn't have high hopes, and I was wrong. The snorkeling was simply amazing. I highly recommend this tour.

Full-Day Catalina Island Snorkeling Tour from La Romana
Trip was good, nice boat ride, beaxh, service and lunch. Cheaper than booking directly through the resort. Only problem is they are not organized with the hotel pick up times or answering the phone. Wasn't sure if they were even coming the morning of the trip.

Catalina Island & Snorkeling Paradise From Punta Cana
This is a hidden paradise, the snorkelling was fantastic, plenty to see. The day started off a bit unorganised but the staff were super friendly and made it a great day. Word of warning, if you buy pictures make sure you get the CD there and then as we paid but never received it, which was a shame as they were lovely pictures of a great day

Full-Day Catalina Island Scuba Diving Tour from La Romana
I booked through trip advisor instead of our resort and after visiting with other guests I’m glad I did. We Stayed at the Casa de Campo and a bus from Passion Paradise Adventure arrived on time to pick me up. My drive to the boat was maybe 10 minutes. (Booking from Casa de Campo would have been about an our over to the dive shop, then an hour back to the boat.) The price at my resort was cheaper, but the taxi was not included and would have been another $45. So in the end I spent less and spent less time driving around. We were on a boat with snorkelers too but that was no problem. We had dedicated crew for our dive and for my group the dive instructor was Edwar. Super nice guy and he took very good care of us. Each Dive lasted about 45 minutes and the sea life and plants were very good. Saw my first Eagle Ray up close. The beer on the boat was cold, and included (nothing before the dive of course!!) The lunch at Catalina Island was good and provided lots of opportunity for beach time or shade (nice after all of the boat time in the sun) All in all. I’m very pleased.

Nice, half day trip. Beautiful beach, amazing water, very good food and service. Hardly recommend for couple, families with children.

When to Get There

Catalina is a popular destination for group tours, so if you’re in search of peace and quiet, arrive early. To scuba dive or snorkel, you’ll find the best visibility on calm, hot days between December and May, when the diving on the south coast is the best.
