The basics

Fronting the Nile Corniche in the heart of the city, Luxor Temple is a must-see destination in Luxor. While the main temple structure can be observed from the outside, visitors should continue to the interior to check out the ancient history on display there, from battle images to scenes depicting worshiping royalty. Luxor Temple is a major site on the East Bank of the Nile, and it’s an included stop on many guided tours and shore excursions.

2-Day Tour: Karnak & Luxor Temples Valley of the Kings Hatshepsut Temple &Memnon
We had a great two days touring the East and West Bank of Luxor. Hany was a great tour guide, who arrived on time both days, was quite informative about all the places we visited, and went above and beyond to ensure we were having a good time.

Private Half-Day Tour of Karnak and Luxor Temple with Pickup
I had prepared for this tour after studying student level egyptology for last two years. I had seen videos, read books, attended zoom lectures and held hard copy notes for reference I loved my young guide, she is local to Luxor and has committed herself to her ancestory and culture. She is calm and knowledgeable and presented herself very well and at my pace. we interacted well, what I wasnt sure of we could discuss and share opinion and that is very important of a tour - a professional guide with knowledge of her subject and ability to share You cannot come to Luxor without visitng these temples, use a 5 day luxor premium pass also ( $200 US - Im English but found the US dollar handy) - temples plus valley of kings via pass pays for itself You cannot really visit the temples without a guide, you will miss too much - but my young lady was brilliant and highly recommended

2-Day Tour: Karnak & Luxor Temples Valley of the Kings Hatshepsut Temple &Memnon
It was great to split the sightseeing in Luxor in two days, having more time to understand all the history of this special place and also leaving free time to spend at our hotel pool. The agency staff was very attentive, the cars were good and clean and our guide Roshid had a great understanding of the places and ancient Egypt, making our visits even more interesting.

2-Day Tour: Karnak & Luxor Temples Valley of the Kings Hatshepsut Temple &Memnon
It was a great tour. Roshdy our tour guide had great knowledge about the place and gave detailed information of the sights. He took us to all the places mentioned and helped us in deciding which place to go and which we can ignore. However, there is one issue I would like to mention that light and sound show he recommended, and we did not like it and could have avoided our time and money. Also, the place he took us to have lunch where restaurant owner was a snake and charged us 60 Euros for below average food and we were not happy about it. We had great food (4-5 course) in our 5 star hotel below that price Other than that, the tour was great. He helped us in getting our food choice met and talked to hotel chef about our requirement, took our several photos, took us to shop he recommended which are good shops but you have to negotiate your own price.

2-Day Tour: Karnak & Luxor Temples Valley of the Kings Hatshepsut Temple &Memnon
My Dad and I had a great time on this comprehensive trip: our fantastically knowledgeable and humorous guide Huni made this trip a blast, and beyond that, the experience takes out all the time and effort of researching where to go, how to buy tickets, etc. What's more, we did not have to worry about organising travel, with an pristine air-conditioned car taking us from location to location. Word of warning: give the alabaster factory a miss - it's just a hard sell (as would the papyrus place have been, no doubt).

2-Day Tour: Karnak & Luxor Temples Valley of the Kings Hatshepsut Temple &Memnon
Roshdy of Reflections Tour group gave us an excellent tour of all the sites on the East and West Banks of Luxor. He provided lots of interesting information and showed us a lot of areas of the sites that we noticed larger groups did not get to. He was punctual, patient, and very kind throughout. He got us a great sugar cane drink to quench our thirst one day. He also took us to a cool alabaster factory and a perfumery that were interesting and had good items for sale. We really appreciated having two days to see all these sites, as we were able to get to each section (East Bank and West Bank) early enough to beat the crowds and the heat, and we were able to enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Overall an excellent experience! Thanks, Roshdy!

How to get there

Located on the Nile Corniche, Luxor Temple is accessed from Mabad Al Karnak. (The main entrance is located across from the prominent McDonalds restaurant.) Abundant taxis are available in the area, though it’s important to agree on a fare before setting out with a driver. If you’re continuing to Karnak Temple from Luxor Temple, one option is to hire a horse-drawn carriage along the Nile Corniche.

When to get there

Early morning and early evening show Luxor Temple at its most romantic, and the warm stone seems to glow in the soft light. After dark, Luxor Temple is beautifully illuminated. Even if you’ve already visited during the day, it’s worth stopping by in the evening to admire the lights and Avenue of Sphinxes from the outside.

What Does the Luxor Temple Obelisk Say?

You can’t miss the 80-foot (25-meter) pink obelisk that stands guard in front of Luxor Temple. Look for images of four sacred baboons on the pedestal; on each of the four sides, the name Ramses is inscribed. While the Luxor Temple obelisk is impressive on its own, there used to be a matched set here: the other one is now located at Place de la Concorde in Paris, France.
