Madrid Royal Palace and Retiro Park Guided Tour with Optional Tapas Tasting
The tour guide (Rocio) was exceptional. She was on time at the meeting points, she used a funny, approachable, and professional manner to expose the knowledge and guide us during the whole tour. I really loved being in this group. I explored and discovered new things and felt very well guided by Rocio. The experience in Madrid with her was excellent.

Madrid Royal Palace Expert Guided Tour with Skip-the-Line Access
Our guide, Rocia, was wonderful. The palace is a must see experience. You tour through 25 rooms of the 3000 rooms in the palace, all of which are absolutely beautiful and lavish. It is a Spanish version of Versailles within, as there are no gardens. The tour lasts 2 hours, which is just right.

Royal Palace of Madrid Early Access in a Small Group
Our tour guide, Alberto, told us the armory was free and suggested we go there after our tour. We would not have known and it was very worthwhile. Overall, this tour was extremely helpful. Lots of history! In a beautiful setting.

Royal Palace Skip-the-Line Ticket and Guided Tour in Madrid
This is a wonderful way to see the Royal Palace. The pace is just about right and the information provided is broad but not overwhelming. The only real wait is waiting to get through the security check. The guide was easy to find (sitting next to the entrance holding the operator's name on a sign) and the tour runs smoothly.

Madrid Royal Palace Expert Guided Tour with Skip-the-Line Access
David was so knowledgeable and EXCITED about the history of the Royal Palace. He was thorough (yet didn't drag on) and was able to answer all questions. Highly recommend this tour! We do not feel that we would have gotten all the details he shared if we went on our own / used the audio guide from the palace.

When to Get There

You can visit the palace year round, but be sure to check the schedule for closures and reduced hours during some public holidays. The Changing of the Guard is held every Wednesday except in July through September, during official events, and when weather doesn't permit. As at most attractions in Madrid, crowds are bigger and lines are longer in the peak summer months.

Other Sights to See Near the Royal Palace

There's a lot to see beyond the palace walls, so be sure to carve out a few hours to see the rest of the area. Just across the courtyard from the Royal Armory is the Almudena Cathedral, and beyond the gates are the free Campo del Moro gardens and Sabatini Gardens. And in front of the palace lies the Plaza de Oriente, a great place to stop at a café for a coffee or snack with a view of the royal residence.
