The Basics

If you’re heading to the beaches of West Maui to surf or sunbathe, chances are you’ll pass through the chilled-out town of Lahaina. Take some time to relax here on the popular Kaanapali beach, where you can also swim or snorkel, or head to Lahaina harbor for snorkel tours and whale-watching expeditions.

You can also head to Napili Beach, which is known for its good surf, and sign up for surf lessons or watch the sunset on a sleek catamaran. In the evening, make your way to Lahaina’s Front Street’s restaurants, or attend a traditional Luau.

Whale Watching from Lahaina Harbor
Seeing the baby whale splashing around in the water and how closely the Moma whale stays to the baby to ensure it's safety.

Sunset Dinner Cruise: Four Course Dining Experience from Lahaina
Excellent dinner and relaxing Dinner Cruise. Bonus was seeing several Whales during our Cruise. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. A little tip for those coming to Maui in near future during Covid. Restaurants are mostly booked in advance and hard to get into. Dinner Cruise is a great way to already have a dinner booked.

Boat trip results in costly Parking

Lanai Snorkel and Dolphin Watch from Lahaina
No information was provided on parking, Most parking spaces around the Harbor have a 3 hr limit, but the trip is 5 hrs plus 45 check intime. It is suggested that information on parking be provided to avoid the $80 parking ticket. Also the crew did not enforce the covid rules of wearing face masks or covering nose & mouth when not eating or drinking onboard.

Raft To Spotted action Quickly

Up-Close Whale Watch Boat Tour from Lahaina
Our captain and his crewman were very professional with safety in mind. No more than 12 people on the vessel and the raft allowed us to get to the whales faster than a big boat would. To actually see whales everyone has to scout. It’s not their fault if it doesn’t happen but they do know the area. You can look up live tracking ahead of time to see if their in the area. Google it.

Maui Sunset Dinner and Dance Cruise from Lahaina Harbor
Our family had a great time, exceeding all of our expectations. The Covid situation resulted in less passengers which I’m sure made things nicer for us. The food was excellent (the prime rib was restaurant quality), the onboard live music added to the Maui vibes, and the boat ride was scenic and relaxing. Captain Dave was great navigating us to see whales. It was a great time and we will book again, even at fuller capacity!

Up-Close Whale Watch Boat Tour from Lahaina
Loved our knowledgeable tour guides, really enjoyed the little boat that allowed us to head in any direction that had whale activity. Lots of respect showed toward whales, the ocean and COVID safe.
