National WWII Museum

945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70130

The Basics

Opened in 2000, and originally called the National D-Day Museum, the National WWII Museum takes an immersive look at wartime life and the input the United States Armed Forces had in the Allied victory. Visitors have the chance to dine in 1940s style at BB’s Stage Door Canteen, see restored fighter planes and tanks, and even experience a thrilling ride on Lake Pontchartrain onboard a restored PT boat, the same type of craft that was used in the Normandy landings.

If you’re touring independently, prebook admission so you can skip the line upon arrival. For an extended day trip, you can combine a visit to the museum with a citywide private tour that includes air-conditioned transport.

Better than any history book. Brought me to a greater understanding of the era. Facility is clean, laid out in good form. See the movie first.

This was the most outstanding presentation of WW II material I have ever experienced! The staff were very helpful. The cafeteria was clean and organized with a variety of choices including salads. So proud of the men and women who made so many sacrifices for our freedom! Our current society could learn a lot.

The National WWII Museum Campus Pass + Beyond All Boundaries 4-D Film
The 4d film is great as well as the exhibits. The way the museum is arranged you get the full picture on the war in Europe and the war in the pacific; what the turning points were in each campaign. I spent five hours in the museum including a nice lunch in the cantina.

Personal stories of people who served brought it to life. Loved the train ride intro and dog tags that allow you to learn about a particular person throughout the day.

Great museum and experience. So much to see and do that you cannot complete in a day. Would like to see the interactive displays come back online that were disabled because of Covid concerns.

The amazing move from total unpreparedness to a world power -house capable of defeating 2 monstrous militaries in 2 different theaters of war in so few years.

Experience the price of freedom!

The short videos as we moved through the war theaters. Would have rated the experience a 5, but the temperature was extremely cold making it difficult to concentrate. This had to be because they had water damage from hurricane Ida. Also, we found it difficult to sequence through time though there were docents.
