The Basics

No trip to New Orleans is complete without seeing one of the numerous plantations surrounding the city. Oak Alley Plantation is one of the more popular options, both for its exceptional exhibitions regarding slavery and the Civil War, its performances at the Sugarcane Theater, and its exceptional Greek Revival architecture. See the Big House and the well-curated grounds on the banks of the Mississippi River on a guided tour, many of which include round-trip transportation from New Orleans’ French Quarter. For a full-day trip from the Big Easy, combine a tour of Oak Alley with a Cajun swamp tour or a trip to some of the other surrounding plantations off the Great Mississippi River Road, including Laura Plantation and San Francisco Plantation.

Double Plantation Tour: Oak Alley and Laura
The plantation tours were great. Laura plantation is definitely one to visit. We booked our trip with Ben, who was absolutely wonderful. He's such a nice and personable guy. I highly recommend booking tours with Ben if you plan on visiting the plantations.

Swamp Boat Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour from New Orleans
Jim was one of the best tour guide we ever had. He was very knowledgeable and professional. (He was teaching landscape history at university earlier, no wonder he knows a lot!) Especially he had very nice voice that is very pleasant to hear. His voice was very calm soft. But we could all hear him well. It was very nice. Also his restaurant recommendation was awesome. We went to one of his recommended oyster restaurant and it was great! We were very lucky to have Jim as our tour guide.

Oak Alley or Laura Plantation Tour from New Orleans
Great tour of this beautiful plantation grounds. The mint juleps were the best I ever tasted! We did the half day tour. Wish I had more time to spend exploring the slave quarters. Other than that it was a great experience.

Full Day Oak Alley Plantation and Swamp Boat Tour from New Orleans
We really enjoyed learning all about Oak Alley plantation and then going to the swamp-we saw 2 alligators and our guide was full of information about the swamp. It was also nice to have our busses coordinated for us rather than booking two separate tours and trying to figure out transportation.

Oak Alley Plantation Tour
It was an amazing place where the plantation took the time to ensure all parts of its history was included. Now it was an hour and ten minute drive out there which was not originally included in the description of the event so ve sure to give a 5 hour window instead of just the 3 hours for the tour.

The guides were knowledgeable and made the experience fun. We learned a lot of facts about the swamp, and antebellum life on a plantation.
