When exploring a new city, there's nothing quite like getting tips and advice from someone who calls it home. That's why, in this series, we turn to the locals who know just as much about what can't be missed as they do about the unexpected delights that make a place so special.
Statue of Liberty
Daily 8:30am - 6pm
Liberty Island, New York City, New York, 10004
Statue of Liberty tours start with a scenic ferry ride to the island, where you can explore the grounds or head to the famed 10-story-high observation pedestal to see the original torch. From there, enjoy great views and photo ops of the New York City skyline and neighboring New Jersey. You can also secure tickets to the crown but be prepared to climb 354 steeply winding steps to the top.
Guided tours feature live narration and historical insight, while informative audio tours explore the construction and restoration of the monument. The monument is also a highlight on New York Harbor cruises, city helicopter tours, and waterfront walking tours.
Well worth seeing Statue of Liberty
When we got on the boat and headed for thy statue of liberty as we got closer it made me thankful I live in the USA. Standing next to the statue also gave me goosebumps. I give our tour guide a 5 star rating.

Early-Access Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Tour
Our tour guide, Joe, was the best! He was knowledgeable about the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. He brought just the right amount of humor to keep the mood light. We got to see everything we wanted to see and didn’t feel rushed while taking the pictures we wanted to take along the way.
Beautiful Landmarks/ A little too much tour guide talking.

NOW OPEN: Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and 9/11 Memorial Pools Guided Tour
It was awesome seeing the Statue of Liberty. Wish we had more time to read/explore Ellis Island. The guide talked for the first 30 min. So, we only had 25 ish min to explore the Museum. I took my 4 kids on this tour. Ages 15,14, 10, and 3. The three older kids loved it. Our three year old just liked exploring the beautiful outside areas.

Private Statue of Liberty Sailing Tour
The Manhattan skyline is breathtaking and can only be truly appreciated while sailing along the shore! What a great, easy way to see the Statue of Liberty up close. And No crowds! Captain Martin was a gracious host and loves storytelling NY’s history. I highly recommend this excursion for locals and out of town guests.

OPENED: New York City Sky Line & Statue of Liberty Sightseeing Cruise Pier 36
We enjoyed the boat ride and the sights. This boat ride takes you very close to the Statue of Liberty and we took great photos. The only thing was we were booked for 1:45pm and got there at 1:30 line requested and the 1:45 boat was cancelled, no one told us.
Things to Know Before You Go
Choose between three levels of access: grounds only, pedestal access, or crown access. Pedestal and crown tickets should be booked well in advance.
Opt for an exclusive early-access tour to beat the crowds.
Access to the Statue of Liberty museum is included with pedestal tickets.
While the observation deck is not wheelchair accessible, the information center, gift pavilion, bookstore, and exterior grounds are.
All visitors to the monument are subject to security screening.
How to Get There
Liberty Island is southwest of the tip of Manhattan in Upper New York Bay. To visit, catch a Statue Cruises ferry from Battery Park in Lower Manhattan; the ferry continues to Ellis Island. The closest subway stations for Battery Park are South Ferry and Bowling Green. Plenty of tours also include round-trip transportation.
When to Get There
Summertime crowds can be intense, so the earlier you arrive at Battery Park for the first few departing ferries, the better. Booking priority-access tickets in advance is a helpful way to maximize your time. The first ferry to Liberty Island typically departs at 9:30am and the last departs at 3:30pm, with extended hours in summer and around the holidays.
Visiting Nearby Ellis Island
Many visitors choose to combine a Statue of Liberty tour with a visit to nearby Ellis Island; your ferry ticket includes access to both stops, and many guided tours offer a combination experience. Once there, visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum to learn about the history of immigration in the United States.
