Amarante Water Park (Parque Aquático Amarante)
Located on the banks of the Tâmego River, the Amarante Water Park (Parque Aquático Amarante) is one of Portugal’s best places for waterslides, pools and fun in the sun. Only an hour’s drive from Porto, the Amarante Water Park, plus the historic town of Amarante, is a popular summertime day trip.
The Amarante Water Park is a small but modern, state-of-the-art aquatic park that will please both adrenaline-seekers and sunbathers. The park’s larger slides launch visitors down slippery, curvy slides and into heated swimming pools. Highlights are the multi-lane slides where visitors can race and also the twirling “snail’s shell” slide. Those looking for a relaxing day can hang out in one of the many large pools or post-up in the lounge chairs. For smaller children, there’s “aqualandia,” shallow kiddy pools with plenty to play with.
The park is only open during the summer and is a favorite among locals from all over Northern Portugal. Crowds can be large, especially in August, so early arrival is recommended.
The Amarante Waterpark is located at 2245 – 909 Rua do Tâmega, 4600 Fregim. It is open from June to September from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is 17 € for adults, 8.50 € for children ages 5 to 11 and seniors over 65, and free for children under 4.
