The Basics

Watching the nightly Penguin Parade is a popular pastime. There are three self-guided viewing options available: general viewing, which allows access to the viewing stand overlooking the beach; the penguins-plus viewing area, which offers a much closer look at the penguins; and the underground viewing area, which lets you view the penguins at eye level. Guided Penguin Parade tours offer greater insight into the penguins and their daily routine.

Many Phillip Island tours and day trips from Melbourne include entrance to the Penguin Parade, often alongside other island attractions such as the Nobbies, the Phillip Island Wildlife Park, or Churchill Island.

Raquel and Lucy were our amazing tour conductors for the day. We went to Brighton Beach, Moonlit Sanctuary and Phillip Island! By far one of the best tours I’ve been on, especially since it’s just after Covid. 100% recommend to anyone who is new to Melbourne or just need a little getaway!

Small-Group Phillip Island Day Trip from Melbourne with Penguin Plus Viewing
My husband and I had an amazing time on this day trip to Phillip Island to see the penguins! We went in July when there isn't as many penguins but we still got such a sight!! Also saw koalas being really active prior to the penguins. Great day and worth the bus ride, our tour guide was amazing.

Phillip Island Penguin Parade Eco Tour 5 star tour with our 5 star tour guide/driver Chris. The day went smoothly thanks to Chris we saw everything as promised in the tour itinerary with perfect time management. Our guide gave us fun commentary on the way and made sure we knew what to see at each stop. The penguin plus was well worth the price of admission . Had a great day and would recommend this tour 👌.

Margaret was a terrific guide and an excellent driver. The tour was well planned and excuted. We just wish you had pick up and drop off at more hotels/locarions to avoid having to walk back to our hotel late at night.

Private Tour: Phillip Island, Penguin Parade and Moonlit Sanctuary Conservation Park from Melbourne
Excellent private tour. John was a very knowledgeable guide. The Moonlit sanctuary was great for feeding the kangaroos and seeing wallabies, wombats, koalas, Tasmanian devil and dingoes. The penguin island experience was very good but would have preferred to have a penguin-plus ticket for the experience having paid for the VIP private tour

The penguins were really cute and tour guide was friendly! Happy to see some koalas though there weren’t that many. Overall experience was great though the bus was a tad small and squeezy

How to Get There

The Penguin Parade takes place at Summerland Beach on Phillip Island, 87 miles (140 kilometers) south of Melbourne, off the Mornington Peninsula. Once on the island, it’s a 20-minute drive to Summerland Beach, depending on traffic. The site is easy to find, off the C473 road and close to the Nobbies. There's no public transport to the beach, so if you don’t have your own car, it’s best to join a tour.
