The Basics

The best way to experience Seattle’s top gastronomic attraction is by sampling your way through it. Guided tasting tours, cooking classes, and cultural walking tours of the market are all excellent ways to take in the sights and sounds, try a little bit of everything, and find spots you may have missed on your own. You can even book an early-access tour to avoid the crowds or take a chef-guided food tour for professional guidance.

Imogen was entertaining...
Imogen was entertaining and informative but group was a bit big for best experience. Deactivate your review minimum-that’s annoying

Pike Place Market Food Tour
Our tour guide, Imogen, was so lovely! She made sure that we had the best experience, even with dietary needs. She went out of her way to make sure we were able to fully experience all the Market had to offer and to make us feel welcomed. She was very knowledgeable about the Market and the businesses we were able to sample foods from.

The most memorable parts of the trip was all of it. Our tour guide, Will, was amazing, very knowledgeable about the history of the market and knew a lot of the local people there which heightened our experience and allowed us to see more than we might have were we not with him. Early morning tour was great because it really was less crowded.

It was a good tour. I enjoyed the history which was very important. Now that I know the history, the market means differently to me. The food tasting was good also.

Taste Pike Place Walking Food Tour
Will was amazing. He accommodated my dietary needs (vegetarian) and everything amazing. The Truffle Queen blew my mind: the truffle salt, mm mm mm… so much flavor!!!! That tasting was the one that impressed me the most. The vegan chowder at the Pike Place Chowder… delish!!! Will has great recommendations: I did have lunch at Pasta Casalinga. 100% authentic Italian (I could hear the owner parlar over the phone).

Taste Pike Place Walking Food Tour
Unfortunately this was the second food tour reservation that I have made but the first tour that I was able to attend due to an unforseen hangover. Woody is an incredible and passionate guide. We enjoyed our time with Woody as well as the food locations that we visited on the 2pm tour. I would visit this tour again to experience the morning tour (sober) at 10am.

Chip was a great tour guide who was funny and knowledgeable with his sidekick Will. Both guys were friendly and entertaining. We tried several samples and all were great, I tried foods I wouldn't normally have.

When to Get There

Because the majority of the action at Pike Place Market takes place indoors, it’s a great place to visit all year-round. The market is open from dawn to dusk and is always bustling, but you can often avoid the crowds by visiting on weekday mornings.

Classic Fish Throwing at Pike Place

One of the most entertaining spectacles are the seafood stalls, where fishmongers throw salmon and other fish to each other rather than passing them by hand. When a customer places an order, an employee at the ice-covered fish table picks up the fish and theatrically hurls it over the countertop so it goes flying through the air to another employee who catches it and preps it for sale. Vendors can pack fish for travel and most ship throughout the US.
