Montalcino

The Basics

Considered among Italy’s flagship wines, Brunello di Montalcino is made from the Sangiovese grapes grown in the postcard-perfect hills of Val d’Orcia, just outside Montalcino’s 13th-century town walls. Join a wine tour from Florence, Rome, or Siena to explore the charming town center—including the 14th-century fortress and nearby Abbey of Sant’Antimo—and taste some of the excellent local wines.

Most wine trips include lunch, so gourmands can sample some of Tuscany’s famed cuisine. Some tours also stop by the neighboring and equally photogenic wine-producing town of Montepulciano.

We really enjoyed the tour. The guide was energetic, knowledgeable and a great driver. We felt very safe. The vineyard selection was super and the lunch at the winemakers home was an experience we will never forget...great food, wine and conversation. Thank you for a great experience.

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena
We went on this as a group of 5 (we were paired with one other couple who were absolutely lovely) and had Daniel as our tour guide. It was without a doubt our favorite experience in Italy. The lunch at Cava D’Onice with Simone and Luccia was amazing. Also, we all felt great after drinking red wine all day. Daniel was right ... there is no excuse for drinking bad wine! An unforgettable and amazing day in Montalcino. Thank you, Daniel, Tuscan Escapes, & Viator!

William was exceptional. He made us feel welcome the minute we stepped aboard. Great knowledge of the area and his country’s history. His personality was exuberant and infectious. All of the vineyards had something different to offer. We highly recommend William and the wine tour he represents. Regards, The Chouinard Family - Goffstown, NH

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena
This is a great tour, full of information, good wine, and fun people. It is a full day so don't plan on doing much else on that day. Our driver, David, was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. We learned a lot, ate, and drank wine with friendly people in Tuscany. What could go wrong?

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena
We learned so much during this authentic tour while also having a lot of fun in the process. Our tour guide was an expert in wine making himself and every winery we went to made us feel comfortable while also showing us every bit of the wine making process.

Montalcino More Than Wine

Easily explored on foot, Montalcino is a quintessential Tuscan village, surrounded by fortified walls and topped by an imposing fortress overlooking the Val d’Orcia and Maremma hills. Stroll past the historic Palazzo dei Priori town hall and the main Piazza del Popolo, with its Gothic loggia. Other highlights include the Palazzo Vescovile and the churches of San Francesco, Sant’Agostino, and Sant’Egidio.
