Fairy Glen (Faerie Glen) Tours and Activities

30 Reviews

The Fairy Glen (or Faerie Glen) on the Isle of Skye in northern Scotland is a bizarre miniature landscape with grassy, cone-shaped hills, ponds, and moss-covered trees. It is a beautiful natural area to walk through, especially during the summer. Legends dating back to prehistoric times tell tales about the existence of fairies that live in this area. The fairies were once believed to have evil overtones and live in beehive houses deep in the heather in the area called the Fairy Glen.

Some residents of the area still believe in the existence of fairies. However, not everyone agrees on what they wear and how they live. Green seems to be the most widely accepted color of clothing for the fairies, although some accounts from medieval times describe them as wearing gold and silver clothing made of gossamer and silk. The queen of the fairies is described as wearing white linen and pearls in her hair. Visitors are advised not to go to spy on the fairies, and that those who doubt will be ignored.

The tour would leave Portree and head in a clock wise direction towards Uig, the gateway to the outer isles. We will take a short journey to the enchanting Fairy Glen. From there the next place would be the museum of island life which is closed for the winter so this would be a photo stop only, including Flora MacDonald’s monument. Duntulm castle ruin would be our next stop. Driving through Flodigarry, where the Jurassic landscape is still slipping to this day towards the sea, we will then head up on to the Quiraing where you will see stunning views across towards the Scottish mainland. We will stop next at the Kilt Rock, then Lealt falls, where you can have a short walk. From there a stop for photographs at the Old Man of Storr and then back to Portree. Access to some areas will depend on weather and road conditions. A minimum of three seats must be booked for the tour to operate. Please contact us by phone or email to check if the tour is running on the day you require.

2 Days Private Tour Isle of Skye from Glasgow with Pick Up

2 Days Private Tour Isle of Skye from Glasgow with Pick Up

Fixed Price for up to five passengers and if you book then you will be getting me, Andrew as your tour guide. I have several years experience both as a walking tour guide and as a driving tour guide. I like things to be fun, interesting and flexible. Because I use a car and not a small bus then the tours can be dynamic and personalised easily. I can go down a few roads that the tour buses cannot go and park in a few places the tour buses cannot park. As far as possible I steer clear of the hoards of other tourists. I like to have fun. My head is jam packed full of stories and every time I learn something new that makes my jaw drop then I just cant wait to tell folk about it. I love questions. Ask me anything you like but as far as possible please just ask Scotland questions. I don't do relationship questions without the risk of potentially terrible answers. Ask at your own risk. I'm happy if my lovely visitors are happy. I'll do my very best for you.
