The Basics

Vancouver Chinatown is one of Vancouver’s most distinctive and fascinating neighborhoods, one that’s a rewarding place to eat, shop, and wander. Explore as part of food tours, which not only show off key landmarks such as the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, but also include tastings of barbecue meats, dim sum, tea, and other Chinese delicacies. Many walking tours and bike tours pass through Chinatown and neighboring Gastown; hop-on hop-off buses and sightseeing coach tours also make stops here.

Outstanding introduction to Vancouver.
Cole, our tour leader (and driver) was one of the most informed individuals I have ever met. He knew his history as well as about the flora and fauna of the region. It was a valuable learning experience for us.

A great way to see the city. Wrap up sit back and learn all about Vancouver. Guide/Driver was excellent but we didn't catch his name . He was from Ontario and he moved to Vancouver. He had a wealth of information and he really loved his job. We'll done!!

Learning about Chinese culture in Canada. The various stores we visited was fascinating and he threw in some great Chinese cooking tips. It was well worth it. I would do other tours with Bob.

A Wok Around Chinatown: Culinary and Cultural Walking Tour Led by a Chef
What a lovely time we had. Our guide is very knowledgeable and likable. First, we sat in a room in the Sun Yat-Sen garden for some cultural information, then we visited the garden. After, we walked in the street of Chinatown and visited a few shops and restaurants. We learnt quite a few things and tasted even more. Highly recommended.

Love the hop-on/hop-off tour in Vancouver. Lynne our driver was very informative and approachable. I would recommend first doing the whole circuit that takes about one hour and then deciding where to get off and how much time you want to spend in the various locations.

Chinatown’s Must-See Sights

Probably the most photographed landmark in Vancouver’s Chinatown is the Chinatown Millennium Gate, a lion-guarded gate that marks the entrance to the district. And although it’s small, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and adjacent park, which includes a pagoda and koi pond, serves as a peaceful sanctum—the perfect hideaway from the busy streets.
