The Basics

The town of Melk lies at the western end of Austria’s Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. While the abbey can be visited independently between April and October, most visitors choose to stop by on a full-day tour from Vienna. Said tours often combine an abbey visit with wine tastings in the valley, a boat cruise along the Danube River, a trip to nearby Salzburg, or a jaunt across the Czech border to Cesky Krumlov.

Private Tour of Melk Hallstatt and Salzburg from Vienna
Marian has been a very pleasant driver. She has always made sure that we are at ease and that we make the most of our time. He also gave us tips for the rest of the days. Highly recommended and of course, Hallstatt and Salzburg are worth the trip.

Private tour of Melk, Hallstatt and Salzburg from Vienna
Deyan was an excellent driver on this private trip. He was very nice, and gave us a great drive around these beautiful cities. Now I must say this is not a guided tour, it is simply a tour where you get dropped off in the cities. Deyan did give us a map in Salzburg where you can see the different Sound Of Music sites.

Melk Abbey and Danube Valley Day Trip from Vienna
Very knowledgeable with great personality lady who guided our tour. Also, very helpful with getting around in Austria for first time visitors. I was very impressed how our guide and the personnel of Melk Abbey was handballing my mother (84 years old) traveling needs. We enjoyed the hole trip and recommend others to have the same unforgettable experience!

Melk Abbey and Danube Valley Day Trip from Vienna
Great trip and great experience. Hour guide has really huge knowledge about all the landmarks as was talking about them with passion. He was using fluently 3 languages (English, Spanish, German) and it was a bit exhausting listening 3 times the same if you understood all those languages but I absolutely understand it - that's his job. The trip schedule is in some moments very tight but it's not an disadvantage. If I could made another trip for sure I would select this one.

Private tour of Melk, Hallstatt and Salzburg from Vienna
Excellent driver, but not a tour guide. He drove us to our destinations and was very personable, however when we read “private tour”, we had expected that it was going to be guided at each destination with information as we followed our guide- maybe just a mistake on our part for what we read on the site.

Private Tour of Melk Hallstatt and Salzburg from Vienna
Driver peter was very nice and knowledgeable. We didn’t not hire a tour guide which was costing anoter 140 dollars. Wish we had time to spend on the beautiful lakes on the way.
