RIB fjord tour to Fyksesund with guided walk in the hamlet Botnen

RIB fjord tour to Fyksesund with guided walk in the hamlet Botnen

This is an RIB tour from Øystese via the old trading town Herandsholmen, over the Hardangerfjord to the steep mountainsides in the branch Fyksesund. At the end of the branch we go ashore for 1 hour in the roadless and old hamlet Botnagrend. The tour starts at Hardangerfjord Hotel in Øystese after a brief review of safety. Across the Hardangerfjord, the trip goes via the old trading town of Herandsholmen before heading to the branh Fyksesund. The branch is an adventurously beautiful fjord arm midway in the Hardangerfjord. Fyksesund is visually beautiful, and the inner part of the fjord has very steep and high mountain sides. In the bottom of Fyksesund lie the villages Botnen and Flatabø only accessible by boat or by foot. We go ashore in Botnagrenda – today an abandoned community. There lies one of the most authentic and protected cultural landscapes in Hardanger, just as it was at the end of the 19th century. There was a vibrant community here in the roadless hamlet.

We cruise with our boat from Solstrand and in the Hardanger Fjord to Jondal village, where our VIP car is waiting to take you up to the Folgefonna Glacier, about 19 km from the harbour. We reccomend lunch in Jondal before going up to the glacier. Private glacier tour can be ordered with guide, please see folgefonni-breforarlag.no/en_GB When finished we go back down in our car, where the boat is waiting, and cruise back to Solstrand. Lunch onboard if wanted, or at one of the hotels in Jondal. Another option is to go by car back to Solstrand, and explore new places on the way, via Norheimsund. Very nice experience of the Norwegian Fjords, nature and glacier.

Across the Hardangerfjord, the trip enters the old trading town of Herandsholmen. From here the trips goes north across the fjord and enters Fyksesund which is an adventurous beautiful fjord arm midway through the Hardangerfjord. Fyksesund is the only side fjord in the Hardangerfjord without a road to the inner part of the fjord arm. The last 5 km of the 10 km long fjord goes between steep mountainsides to the roadless old village Botnen at the end of the fjord. Join us on an adrenaline-filled RIB tour – the fastest boat ride you can get! Your driver and guide stops a couple of times to let the unique scenery work its magic and to provide interesting facts about the fjord and people who used to live at the fjord farms. With a bit of luck even porpoises show themselves in the water. There are several stops close to land along the way to experience nature and life along the fjord. It is important to have a camera easily accessible.

Guided hike to Florli 4,444 steps

Guided hike to Florli 4,444 steps

star-5
2
Consider spending a day climbing the world’s longest wooden staircase. With its 4444 steps, Flørli is known to be one of the scariest stairs in the world. The climb is long and strenuous, but provides great lookout points where you can stop to catch your breath while enjoying the vista over the Lysefjord down below. This is a two-part hike that does not take you through the same scenery more than once. The descent follows the hundred-year old marked trail that was once used by the “Rallarer”. Rallarer were often underprivileged men that were employed in the 1800s Norway to help build infrastructure. They are remembered to have carried up to 80 kg loads on their backs, and are the ones that built the stairs along with the Flørli Hydroelectric Power Station at their base. The dam at Ternevatnet, which the return trail passes, also stands as a reminder of their mastery.
