Depart Beirut by air-conditioned coach and venture through Lebanon’s countryside to Baalbek. Arrive at this ancient archaeological site and set out on a guided tour of its age-old ruins.

Known by the Romans as Heliopolis, this timeworn site is largely made up of semi-crumbled temples built during the Roman era. View the broken remains, including the massive Temple of Jupiter, built on a huge podium and around a rectangular courtyard where sacrifices were performed.

As you explore, hear about the mystery of the gigantic stones that served as the foundations for earlier temples here. The size and weight of the stones have left scholars confounded as to how they were originally transported here and then manipulated into place.

Having explored Baalbek, relax over a delicious lunch of meze (small dishes) and tapas at a local restaurant, and then drive on to Anjar. On arrival, stretch your legs around Anjar’s souks, and then explore the town’s showpiece: its Umayyad ruins. Consisting of the remnants of an 8th-century palace-city ruled by the Ummayad dynasty, this fascinating complex is filled with ruined temples, arcades, and gates, many built in the Hellenistic and Roman style.

Next, continue into the Bekaa Valley to Ksara, home of the famous Ksara Caves. Discovered in 1898, these ancient caves are now used by Chateau Ksara, Lebanon’s oldest wine estate. Take a winery tour, see the thousands of bottles stored in the caves-turned-cellars and learn about the winemaking process.

Finally, return to Beirut, where your trip ends.

This tour with Nakhal was amazing. It takes you to the breathtaking temples of Baalbek which is an absolute must if you visit Lebanon. The tour guide was very friendly and did a great job. The included lunch in Zahle was also very good.

One of the best tours that we have ever been on! Breathtaking sights and an expert guide, and well planned and managed by Nakhal. We were quite a small group (4 people) on this tour, and most of the sights we visited were quite empty so this meant our experience was probably quite unique and we did benefit from a quite personalised tour. Our tour guide Natasha was amazing - her passion and knowledge of architecture and archaeology shone at Aanjar and Baalbek, and she was positive, good-humoured and friendly. She also had a lot of knowledge about her country and shared many facts with us about Lebanese culture, history, and current events. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to Nakhal's offices, and then went to Aanjar. It is a longer drive out east (about 1h30), but very scenic with the mountains and valleys. Aanjar was very peaceful and it was fascinating to learn about the history of the Umayyads. We then drove on to Baalbek, via a quick stop at the largest stone in the world (really!) At Baalbek Natasha continued to give us a very informative tour, and plenty of time for photos. Needless to say, Baalbek is awe-inspiring! We had Lebanese mezze and mixed grill for lunch at a quiet spot in Zahlé. After lunch we went to Ksara. The tour here was quite quick - possibly 10-15 minutes, followed by a tasting of wines. Worth it to experience the history of Lebanon's oldest winery! We were taken back to our hotels in Beirut for about 4pm. We had an amazing day, and feel very lucky to have seen these historical sights with a brilliant tour guide, and we'd really encourage others to go on this trip!

I chose this tour by mistake thinking it was a small group and was too late to change. BUT I was really pleased by the efficiency and professionalism of guide and driver that made it so interesting, enjoyable & efficient. Kudos to driver who drove backwards to get us out of a traffic gridlock and the guide was incredibly knowledgeable.

A Wonderful Experience

A full day travelling by coach, where the guide filled the journey with informative detail about the places we were visiting and the history of the area as we journeyed from Beirut. Anjar was magnificent, Baalbek was amazing. It was a privilege to visit these ancient monuments and imagine how life once was. The tour organisation was efficient, the coach journey was safe, the lunch stop was very good. If you are in Beirut or planning a visit to the region I recommend this agency.

Loved every minute of this day trip. The visit to Anjar was a nice opener, not too long and great preparation for the beauty of Baalbek. The guide was great, providing plenty information, and the bus was good, picked up from hotel in a van and transferred to the main bus at the company office. Baalbek is amazing, such a large site and very well preserved. The temple of Bacchus is outstanding, the highlight of my trip to Lebanon. Lunch came after which was very good, lovely setting and vegans were well catered for - too much food really! After lunch was Ksara which was a good change of gear, not strenuous and good to get out of the sun for a while.

Good day trip, but too many people

We really enjoyed the trip. The ruins are well worth the cost of the excursion! We enjoyed all of it and lunch was absolutely amazing!! Minor issues: We were with a large group (30-35 people), which often caused delays in leaving on time. Between this and an earlier minor traffic incident (no one was hurt, not the drivers fault), we were quite delayed and didn't end up eating lunch until 16:00. Generally, they should try to keep the groups smaller in number, as our second tour was much smoother and it only had about 15-20 people in the group. There were two tours doing the same trip, so they split the group due to size, which worked much better. Overall, would highly recommend.

Great trip- felt safe at all times

I normally don’t write reviews of excursions, as I’m usually too busy with/exhausted from traveling. In this case, I’m making a point to review as I know Lebanon receives a lot of bad press, particularly from the state department. I am an American woman travel king alone, and was nervous about Baalbek. As it turns out, I am SO glad I did this trip. Baalbek is absolutely worth seeing- it blows Pompeii and Ephesus out of the water. Anjar also had beautiful ruins- including archways. Ksara was a nice cap on the day. There was a stop at the pregnant stone, and a stop for anyone who wanted breakfast or convenience store items (buy the water you think you need- then buy another bottle). There were no high pressure sales stop as are typical with group tours. You could buy souvenirs if you wanted or just sit outside and admire the rock/enjoy the sun. Time at each place was good. Like other reviewers said, I would have enjoyed more time at Baalbek but, since it is a city where security could potentially be an issue (again, it felt very safe while we there), it is probably for the best that this portion of the tour is more structured. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the company responded quickly and professionally when I changed my hotel for pickup. This is the way to see Baalbek as a solo traveler. Do not miss it

Stunning sites but the tour overall wasn't mine
Manuel_M
, May 2019
All started with not receiving an email confirmation for hotel pick-up which resulted in US$ 13.- phone calls to finally reach the person who would confirm it. Not the best start but happens, so not the end of the world. The sites itself are stunning, no question. However I ended up cancelling my other booked tours with this company and going with a private taxi instead. If you are 2 or more people it will cost you even less. If you are alone it would cost you slightly more yet brings you the freedom of stopping and staying wherever you want. The guide was very nice yet did not really share much interesting information in my opinion. Ended up looking up on Google the information I expected to get. In a nutshell, if you like tour groups go for it but to me, a better and more authentic way to discover Lebanon, is going with a private driver. By using Uber you will meet many drivers so just pick the one you "match" and suits your preferences. Hope this helps.

Fascinating tour of two stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Jonathan_G
, Mar 2019
Excellent, informative full day tour of two of the most spectacular historical sites in Lebanon, finished with tour and wine-tasting at Ksara. Hotel pick-ups are offered, which is incredibly convenient, and the tour is delivered on an air-conditioned coach, with accompanying guide commentary as you drive. You pass spectacular scenery of the Bekaa Valley en-route to Anjar, an ancient Ummayad ruined city, with snow-capped peaks in the background. You then head to the ancient city of Baalbek (Roman Heliopolis), which some of the most awe-inspiring and complete Roman ruins you will see outside of Rome itself. Lunch is then provided in a nice restaurant in Zahle, with a good, hearty and filling selection of Lebanese mezze, before finishing with a brief tour and wine tasting at Ksara. The wine tasting feels a little rushed, but there is a good shop there to buy some authentic Lebanese wine to bring home. Given that Lebanese public transport is not very well developed, and that these sites are inland and quite difficult to get to, this tour offers an easy, convenient way to see them. The tour guide also helps to bring the ruins to life and you get much more from the experience. Overall, an excellent tour that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Lebanon.
