Heavenly!

Experiencing the vibrant hues of the setting sun as it slowly descended into the clouds below was spectacular! The evening's weather was surprisingly pleasant, there was NO wind... we all gazed in awe of this viewscape above the clouds... absolutely surreal! Hunter was a knowledgeable guide; his easy going & friendly manner made us all feel right at home at 14,000 feet!! We highly recommend this adventure & are already considering coming back to the Big Island to do it again!

Amazing tour. Our tour guide was incredibly helpful. After a stunning sunset we had the opportunity to go star gazing and even saw lava glowing. Best tour we’ve been on in Hawaii.

Aloha Joyce_B, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are happy that you had an awesome time. Seeing Saturn's rings is a must see. There is a reason why it is called the jewel in the sky. Thanks again for your wonderful review.

Aloha Laura_A, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are happy that you had an epic time. From Sea level to the summit is a drastic change of scenery. We go through 14 of the 16 different climate zones on our tour. At the summit it does feel like another world. Thank you again for your wonderful review and recomendation.

Totally unique experience; pray for clear skies

The sunset portion of this adventure was a big wow. Staff really cared about how folks were feeling at this altitude. Shout out to Rydge who provided unique facts based on his Hawaiian heritage. Unfortunately we were unable to truly see the stars or the Milky Way for very long due to weather, and as a result didn't get to take astral photos either. I understand no one can control the weather, but it would have been nice to have been offered a discount or something because of this.

Aloha kaprobasco, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. The weather on Mauna Kea can be unpredictable. Usually it is clear and not raining. We average 20 inches of rain every year. Unfortunately the weather was bad that evening. Thank you for your great review.

Tour Guides Hunter and Nate were fabulous. Great narrations of where we were traveling, ecology, history. Incredible knowledge of astronomy. Star-gazing session was awesome. Loved getting the heavy parkas and gloves for the mountain top

Best experience ever!
Jess

My husband and I were really looking forward to this tour and it did not disappoint! Ridge picked us up in Hilo and chatted with us the whole way up. Plenty of candy to go around, with cup noodle, hot chocolate, and cookies later on. After a stop at the visitor's center, we went up to the summit for sunset, then back down to the visitor's center for stargazing. We were worried because it was foggy and drizzly at first, but then the sky cleared up and we saw the ISS fly by, Josiah taught us about all the constellations, and we were even able to see 3 moons of Jupiter and Saturn's ring through the telescope. The drive was a little scary, but both tour guides were careful drivers and got us everywhere safely. This was our favorite tour we did in Hawaii. We got back to Hilo a little after 9 (and Ridge gave us a ton of local restaurant recommendations which we definitely took advantage of!).

Aloha Jess, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are happy that you found our tour your favorite. Looking at Saturn's rings is my favorite thing to look at through the telescope. You see it in books but when you actually see it, it is truly amazing. Thanks again for your wonderful review

Our guide was Hunter who did an amazing job! He was very friendly, laid back and very knowledgeable about the history of Mauna Kea, the various observatories and astronomy in general. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to have a once in a lifetime experience and see a different side of Hawaii!
