Departure Time

9:00 AM
Begin your tour with pickup from your central Cartagena hotel and a short ride to Bazurto Market. First, pass through Cartagena’s colorful Getsemani neighborhood, famous for its graffiti street art and hip nightlife, and pay a visit to a local shopping mall, before venturing into the buzzing marketplace.

Follow your guide around the labyrinth of stalls, stopping to take a peek at a metal mechanic workshop, and watch the local craftsmen at work. Next, visit a music store, where you can sip a cold beer as you listen to ‘Champeta’, the urban folklore music that remains hugely popular throughout the region. You’ll even get to take away a CD of some of your favorite music.

Learn more about the fascinating history of the market and the Getsemani neighborhood as you stop to browse the stalls and chat with the vendors. Pause for refreshments (included) at a fresh juice stall, then meet one of the market’s most legendary poster artists. You’ll even have the chance to have a handmade poster created with your own personal message. Continue to the herbsman stand, where you’ll get to sample a traditional Colombian healing potion, then marvel at the butcher’s stalls, laden with different cuts of meat.

After working up an appetite walking around the market, stop to enjoy lunch at the legendary Ceci's restaurant, which was famously featured on American chef Anthony Bourdain's TV show. After tucking into an array of Colombian specialties, enjoy a short walk through the fish market before exiting the market, where a driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

Most memorable part of this experience would have to learning about Champeta culture at Edwards. There was education throughout and a strong sense of commerce pride regardless of the adversities endure for them to thrive!!! A1!
The real Cartagena (the best cartagena)
, Sep 2021
I had two guides for this trip who were both sweet and kind and caring. It was like having friends take you to the market. They met me at my hotel exactly on time and we were off on our adventure. Although I will admit the food was my favourite part, this is so much more than a market tour. I learned so much about day to day life of Cartagenans. This is something you could do by yourself but, I would have missed SO much if it had not been for my guides, they showed me things I never would have found on my own, and enriched the experience with information only a local can provide.
What a shame

I was very much looking forward to this tour, however, I never received information on what time the tour guide was coming to pick us at the hotel. Because of that, I wrote to the agency the night before and nobody responded. I called early in the morning and was directed automatically to voicemail. I left a message there. I also wrote to the agency various times the morning of the tour to never receive a response. After waiting for an hour in the lobby, at about 9:35am the tour guide arrived. By that time we had already decided to return to the hotel room since the the ticket said the tour started at 9am. Since we had another tour the same afternoon, it was too late to attend the tour. Therefore, I asked for my money back. They are saying they will reimburse me for the two tickets (totaling $100+). Given the positive reviews of this tour, I assume the vast majority of people have had a great experience. As long as my money is reimbursed without any further difficulty I may give it another shot when I return to Colombia, however, I need to know that I will be contacted prior to the tour so I understand when I am going to be picked up at the hotel. I'm surprised nobody was in. touch with me prior to the tour, or even after I met briefly with the tour guide to let her know I wanted to be reimbursed.

interesting and different

This was a very interesting tour of a part and aspect of the city we would have not otherwise been able to experience. Our guide, Kate, was absolutely wonderful. She was enthusiastic informative and simply a joy to be around. Kate also began by asking us what some of our interests were, so our tour could be particularly highlighted. The Bazurto market itself is enormous, chaotic, and sprawling, but with an experienced guide by your side, you can glide seamlessly through it and get an authentic feel for the many varied things it has to offer. If you want something quite different from the sites of the old city or the beaches, I would definitely recommend.
Market Experience
, Mar 2020
Tour guide , Shayla (spelling - ?) was excellent. Received many extras during the market tour that was provided gratis. The downside was that it cost my wife and I another $40 for the round trip taxi cost to the tour meeting site. Plus, we had to cut our tour short due to the fairly early departure of our cruise ship (had to be back on board by 12:30 PM). Interesting look at the way of life of the other half of Cartagena people.
Must See!

Sheila and Delia were terrific ambassadors and tour guides of their city, country and the market! They gave it their all and we really appreciated the experiences and explanations. Highly recommended to really get a feel for everyday life in Cartagena!
An experience!

What an experience, not for the faint of heart! There were 8 of us, the perfect amount to keep everyone together. Our tour guide was fantastic guiding us thru the neighborhood and then thru the market. This market is gritty, lots of locals shop here. There are food vendors with large pots of cooked food. There are meat, fish and vegetable vendors. Keep in mind the meat and fish are NOT refrigerated so the smell can be overwhelming. There are also souvenir vendors. Go, but be aware!

Nothing short of amazing! Wonderful tour. Probably the best one I did in Cartagena. I don't want to spoil too much, but I would highly recommend this tour! They put a lot of thought into this. Makes you feel like a "local". Lunch was also delicious.
Wonderful :)

The market tour was so great but our guide Kate was even better! Seriously, she made the entire tour, she gave us so much information and we learned a ton! We tried fruits I had never even seen before, learned a few dance styles and got to eat lunch at a restaurant that Anthony Bourdain ate at! Take this tour and request Kate for your guide...seriously!!
Educational and fun walk through Cartagena market and neighborhood
, Jan 2020
This tour was a great way to see the market and neighborhoods, and to learn about the history of the city and people. Andrea was a fabulous guide, combining important historical facts with entertaining examples of life in Cartagena. The tastes along the way, coupled with watching handcrafted metal work, and learning local dance was fun. Eating lunch in the market provided opportunity to learn more and enjoy great food. You don’t want to miss this!
