Return Details

Returns to original departure point
This horse-drawn carriage ride and tour, a journey that travels back in time to the colonial beginnings of Charleston, meets at 14 Anson Street, home of the Old South Carriage Company. Charleston, the oldest and second-largest city in South Carolina, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pre-Civil-War-era houses.

As the tour progresses, pass by the old churches, antebellum mansions and lush gardens of Charleston — more than 2.5 miles and 30 blocks of residential real estate. Stop outside historic homes, like the Gov. William Aiken House, the former home of South Carolina Governor William Aiken, Jr. This house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Part of the charm of the tour are the horses that pull the carriage. These are the same kinds of draft horses that worked on American farms in the early 1800s, making this voyage all the more authentic.

We didn’t see the colorful strip of homes advertised. It was very crowded with 4 in a row. On top of another horse tour twice. Not the best experience

The guide was great (personable and knowledgeable). The path you take is a lottery system of sorts, so you might not get to see what you were hoping for.

Terrible tour guide (Brian): Stay away
KristiS
, Jul 2021
This tour would have been great with a better guide. Brian was obnoxious, adversarial and presented the history of the city with an exceptionally inappropriate political bias. He repeatedly shared “his version of history” with every intent of spreading misinformation. He repeatedly talked about politics and his agenda was very clear. It was awful. I wanted to learn about Charleston, not what Brian thinks about our present day political landscape. I do not recommend this tour.
