Charleston History and Hops Tour: Bar and History Walk

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Charleston! Bryan was a great tour guide and his knowledge and passion for Charleston is extensive and inspiring. If you are looking to do a tour this one comes highly recommended. I Loved all the places we stopped and everything little detail That was shared! Don’t worry about the heat, Bryan tries to keep you in the shade and you get to stop for some drinks along the way to cool down!

I thought the tour was pretty good, but overall pretty average (which is what Viator says three stars means). The first bar, an Irish pub, was fine. The second bar was more impressive, with good drinks and a nice outdoor space. The guide, Adam, was very low key. Hard to hear at times too, even though there were only 4 of us. The info he shared here and there was interesting but not particularly engaging. He knows his history. But he needs work in mastering the entertainment aspect of being a guide. And personally, I don't think it's appropriate to share details of your near death heart problems from the prior year. Not to make light of them, but when I am on vacation and on a tour, why would I want to hear about something like that? It certainly didn't occur to me to share with the group that my mom is dying of cancer. Maybe I'm too much of a review purist, but I'm not going to gloss over things just because the guide tells you to make sure to only write a 5 star review ("just kidding!" - but not really) as he passes out a freebie momento. Ditto when you get a follow up text message asking you to only write a 5 star review. It's not fair to guides and tours that are truly exceptional. At the end of the day, the tour was fine. Average. Didn't exceed expectations, but didn't especially fall short of them either. If we all just hand out 5 star reviews like nothing, what's the point?

Capt. Brian was enthusiastic and entertaining. He had lots of interesting tidbits to share that gave a different perspective to history. I would recommend this tour

Great history lessons by a knowledgeable Charlestonite. Could have provided a bit more food at the two drinking stops.

Captain Brian was awesome! He’s very knowledgeable and adds stories to help you remember the history and make it interesting! The two bar stops were great and the hospitality was second to none. The sights we saw along the way were beautiful and intriguing. I would definitely recommend this tour!

We had a great time learned a lot about Charleston. Would recommend this tour for someone who is seeing Charleston for the first time.
