Great time in Ireland
Matthew_L
, Nov 2019
My wife and I spent 4 days in western Ireland, what a great time. The tour guides were great, informative, good humor and the sites they showed us made this a remarkable & unforgettable trip. Kilarney was a wonderful town to walk around it and be part of, we even went to see a Galic dance as an added pleasure on the trip. We will do it again in a few years.

Great tour, well organized
Elaine Y
, Aug 2019
I booked this 4 day tour and once I read reviews, I called Railtours directly to ask to have an intown hotel, because some of the B& B's are a little out of town and require walking to get anywhere in town.
Apparently if you book thru Viator, you get the B&B's. If you book directly through Railtours, they put you in the nicer hotel which is in the center of town. in addition, I was advised by someone that booked directly that you also get breakfast on board the train included. This is available to all passengers, but you have to pay on board. The B&B we stayed at was very good and Maura was great. She keeps a very clean and well stocked operation. The downside is the walk to town. It wasn't horrible, but once you walk back to the B&B, you think twice about doing it again the same night. If walking isn't a concern, then you're fine. The tours were very good. Knowledgeable guides, and very well organized. People from different tours with different itineraries may travel together, but these guides are on top of it all. They give clear directions and make sure everyone is accounted for. If you only have a limited amount of time, and want to see as much as possible, this is a great way to do it. We didn't have to worry about planning anything, and it was nice to already have your tickets to attractions, and not have to wait in the lines. I was happy with all we got to do in the 4 days we had available.
Ireland is overhyped

The Cliffs of Moher were worth the trip, but Kerry and Dingle were not particularly scenic, interesting or worth anyone's time. Overall impression is the Ireland is desperately trying to become a tourist attraction so there is a lot of hype and little substance.

Experienced tour guide and drivers

We had a great time in Ireland during our 4-day tour with the Railtours Ireland. Our tour guide, Brian, is very funny and experienced. We learned a lot about the culture and history of Ireland from him. Although the weather was not that good, it was still a pleasant journey for all of us. Special thanks must also be given to our drivers who took us to our destinations safely and comfortably during poor weather conditions.

Depending on what your expectations are, you may not think that this tour is 5 starts. My expectations were not too high as bus tours are usually not wonderful, but I thought this tour was great. You are on the bus quite a bit, but you see SO much of Ireland. The few train trips are great too. Nice to not be on a bus for part of the trip. Our guides were excellent and funny. One recommendation is to book early and try to get in the hotel versus the B and B. This way you are closer into the town for shopping and fun. The B and B we stayed in was ok. Small and older fixtures but the host was so sweet and made us breakfast every morning.

Our 4 day trip to the western coast was absolutely beautiful. We had outstanding guides including Brian Duggan, Eion and Jonathan Beaumont who added fun, song and historical perspective to our visit. The only drawback was our B and B accommodation in Killarney.
It was definitely inferior to the hotels where other passengers were staying, many who had booked with another carrier. Many people on our bus stayed at The International Hotel in town and they loved their accommodations. Our room should have been for 1 person and was very small. Breakfast was only served one morning. Luckily the tours were wonderful but would hope changes would be made for future travelers.

Do yourself a favor and book this trip! Our only regret was that we weren't able to book a longer tour with Railtours. We had three different guides in the four days and they were all wonderful. So friendly and helpful and also knowledgeable about the history of the area. Would do it again!

A great tour to get you to some beautiful sights. We were blessed with 4 days of perfect weather and clear skies, a rarity in Ireland! The rail part of the tour is only on the first and last days with buses used for the day trips to the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. The tour bases you in Killarney for 3 nights which removes 3-4 hours of rail travel each day if you were to stay in Dublin and do day trips, giving a much more relaxing start time of between 9:30-10am and finish by 5pm for the 2nd and 3rd days and time to explore Killarney. A number of different B and Bs are used - mine was the lovely Drimon House run by Mary who was an amazing host and very welcoming. The room was cosy with an ensuite, electric blanket and television and a separate lounge room where guests could congregate to talk about the day's adventures and watch television. Key point with this tour is to watch the start time on the first day of the tour. 7am is actually the train departure time so you need to be at Heuston Station a good 20min before that! It is actually run by Rail Tours Ireland - The Great Southern and Western Coast tour.

A true vacation! Rail Tours and Deros Tours looked out for me every step of the way. Dingle tour guide Morris was engaging and entertaining. Cliffs of Moher and Galway Bay tour guide Jonathan foresaw the groups needs with a flawless plan. There's is no way I could have coordinated a tour this encompassing on my own.

We loved the sights -- beautiful landscapes and coastal areas! We enjoyed staying in the town of Killarney for 3 nights, but the Acara B and B was very basic and not to our liking. We wish we had stayed in the International House as others did. Otherwise, a great trip that we'd highly recommend!

Great stuff and everything was done brilliantly well by the tour organisers. Starting with the Tour guides (Mr Norman for 3 days and Ray Furlong for 1 day) who shared great tid-bits of information, the bus ride, the photo-stops, the scenery itself and of course the pubs and inns where good food was always available (though a little bit restricted in terms of choice for strict vegetarians). The routes chosen were stunning leaving us panting for more...wishing that this tour never ended !!

I didn't reailize that the trip was basically 4 day trips, but it worked out well. There was just a bit of a different flow because I basically had a different tour guide for the different days. I had Dave as my guide two days who was stellar. He went above and beyond, and was a treasure chest of information. He was very helpful with questions as well. Was a great way to see the scenic parts of Ireland packed into 4 days. Stayed at a great B and B in Kilarney with this tour called Robeen House. It was nice to see have the different day trips but have them all coordinated for me.

I felt this was a good trip. Wish we could have stopped in a couple places a bit longer. This is a great thing to do if you want to see all the big attractions. I did feel altough it was tourist central... "and make sure you stop at the gift shop before you leave" kind of thing. But the tour itself was nice. Nice people, helpful staff, good accomodation, transportation. I just dont like being on a schedule so much.

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
