Cooking with an Italian Chef

We throughly enjoyed our cooking class with Thommas. He was very knowledgeable and patient. We all laughed and worked well together. I have already referred some people we were on a wine tasting tour with today. This was a highlight of our visit in Florence.

SO FUN and a Must! - But Giving Honest Feedback
Nicole_A
, Sep 2021
This was an excellent experience and we highly recommend it to anyone wanting to find excursions out of the norm and additional local experiences. We had fun, learned a lot, and came away with recipes that we will be excited to try once we’re back home! Wanted to give this five stars because it was truly such a fun experience and we loved both Tomasso and David, they were excellent, but there were a couple things that we felt could have made this a five. First, the menu and details noted that we would also make an appetizer course of fresh bruschetta, this was not actually included. When the wine was served we did receive cheese and balsamic, but did not get to make or enjoy the bruschetta that was listed. Second, we had a mother and daughter at our table who were very nice, but the daughter was young (I think 11-12), and was immature the entire class. Playing with the food and ingredients, not following direction, making an absolute mess - it was honestly distracting and disappointing after paying what we did for the class. I don’t blame this on the instructors or cooking class at all, but maybe feedback to have an age limit of a little higher would be excellent. Last, we were traveling and celebrating for our first wedding anniversary and wanted to purchase one of the terracotta wine bottles as a keepsake to commemorate the experience and our trip, as well as some balsamic. We were told that they weren’t selling any of their product at this time, either in person or online, even though they had plenty of stock. This was very disappointing - typically if someone partakes in your class or experience, they get the perk of being able to spend money at your business and sadly we couldn’t. Still would come back and do another class, and would recommend to anyone staying in Florence!

What an amazing experience this was! I enjoyed going to the market and then learning how to make all the great food. I can’t wait to try it when I get home. Our chef, Tomaso, was kind, helpful and always willing to answer questions.

We learned a lot and enjoyed a delicious meal. However, based on past cooking class experiences, we expected it to be a little more entertaining.

Caterina La Mantia is a gifted cucinera ( her own term) and an excellent teacher and advocate for using good produce. We could have spent hours at the market learning from her about the produce in season, the regional specialities and the differences in quality of produce availible to the consumer. Her cooking class is as vibrant as her personality. It is a joy to be around her and to learn the tricks of the Italian kitchen (e.g. an extra spoon of sugar for good luck for the tiramisu). We (my wife and I and our 13 year old son) loved Caterina and the class. A Florence must do!

Our group of 6 ranging from teenage girls to grandparents all enjoyed a fantastic experience sampling meats and cheeses from the market to making and eating our delicious meals. Katerina was an amazing host and chef sprinkling in great stories along with passing on her culinary skills. We would highly recommend this class with her.

I had such a great experience with Caterina and David! They took me on a wonderful, informative central market tour then we went back and made a pasta, ravioli, two sauces and tiramisu. It was all delicious! They were both great and I'd love to come back again!
