Airboats are so overdone (but fun, too) why not get out of the boat and walk thru the Everglades?! Our walking guide was full of interesting facts. We bought shoes at Goodwill and just threw them away when we were done, along with our socks. My kids (Ages 11,12,13) loved it too. Best done in winter, we saw NO mosquitoes.

We found it very interesting to learn about the ecosystem in the Big Cypress National Preserve. Saw alligators - they moved away when we got within 50 ft. Saw several varieties of bird - again not able to get close. It's hard to walk quietly in 1 - 2 feet of water. Had to be careful walking as the ground under the water was uneven and slippery.
