Itinerary
Stop At:
Dong Xuan Market
Meet up with your local guide, then dive straight into Hanoi’s culinary scene with a visit to Dong Xuan, the largest covered market in the city. Along the perimeter of the market, dozens of street hawkers sell a staggering variety of produce, from live seafood to exotic fruits and spices.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Old Quarter
After exploring the market, walk through the maze of bustling streets that make up Hanoi’s Old Quarter, tempting your tastebuds with the famed Hanoi dish banh cuon at a local eatery. Watch in awe as the skilled chefs demonstrate for you how this tasty dish is put together. Continuing into the atmospheric heart of the Old Quarter, we wander past street stalls and quiet residential lanes where you can observe local life that has changed little since Hanoi was founded over 1000 years ago. Your next stop is a stall selling bun cha, a classic Vietnamese dish served with grilled fatty pork (chả) over a plate of white rice noodles (bún) and herbs with a flavoursome dipping sauce. Be sure to save some room as you’ll soon be tucking into grilled nem chua, a fermented pork roll, and a fresh fruit salad, two of the most well-known snacks in the city.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Hoan Kiem Lake Walking Street
Your local guide will then take you to one of Hanoi’s best-kept secrets, a hidden café with stunning views over the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake. This hard-to-find café is one of the few left in the city that still serves egg coffee, a scrumptious local delicacy that we will sample whilst admiring the hustle and bustle of the city centre below. Or, if coffee is not your style, a cold beer awaits! At the end of our Hanoi tour, you are free to continue exploring the area or your guide will assist you with directions or a taxi back to your hotel.

A great start to our holiday in VIetnam! Our guide, Lee, introduced us to a variety of Vietnamese food and beverages and we finished the tour totally satisfied with the experience. The walking was easy going and Lee showed us areas of the old quarter that we would never have ventured into ourselves.

My tour guide, Kim, was friendly and knowledgeable. She made sure our big group felt comfortable, and talked with us very easily. Would definitely recommend this tour if you want to learn more about the classic Hanoi food!

The food tour was excellent! A lot of walking but Daisy was very knowledgeable about the old quarter and Hanoi. We stopped at about 6 places. Great introduction to Vietnamese food!

A taster of typical Vietnamese food. Perhaps not the more unusual street food that we expected. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He showed us interesting parts of Hanoi that we would not have found ourselves.

interesting downtown tour

This walking tour is more a way to visit the downtown part of Hanoi than really culinary. I did not find any of the food "so" original if I compare it to something equivalent in either Singapore or Paris. We discover interesting back alleys and shops but no great culinary revolution.

My husband and I really enjoyed the tour. We stayed at a hotel only for one night in Hanoi. The guide was informative and helpful, and so we have known about Hanoi much better in a couple of hours.

Our guide was great, although there was too much walking and with a bigger group of people, often hard to hear him.

We had a wonderful guide on 11/20/18 unfortunately we can’t remember his name. He shared lots of information about Hanoi and was full of energy. He even showed us how to use grab instead of using a taxi. Thank you for a great tour.

Good experience trying out food in...

Good experience trying out food in Hanoi. Was nervous at first but the dishes we tried weren't that crazy didn't have dog or snake or anything like that. Walked around Hanoi in parts that i wouldn't have ordinarily gone to. We spent most of the time at the bbq spot. But the last spot with the view over Hanoi and the egg coffee was probably my favorite.

Highly recommend this tour! First the good....then the ok:) Our guide Faizan was amazing. He spoke English extremely well and was very knowledgeable. He tailored the tour to exactly what we wanted and stayed friendly the entire time. He never hesitated to show us exactly where the good photo spots were or to hold our bags while our photographer at the Taj Mahal took our photographs. Always polite, a true gentleman. We had signed up for the train tour; however, we ended up receiving a driver and drove to Agra from New Delhi. Due to this, we did not receive the breakfast meal on the train so our guide took us to a nice restaurant and we could choose our meal and drink of choice. After we finished the Taj Mahal, we went to a shop where they demonstrated how marble inlay was made. It was interesting. I will warn you, you will be invited to tea and a look at the pieces they sell in the basement. They do not pressure you, it the pieces are so beautiful that I did choose to purchase a piece. After that we went to the Red Fort, again Faizan our guide was amazing! Great photo opportunities and great history. The lunch location is very nice. We chose our meal and drink. During that time Faizan sat with us and discussed anything we wanted. We were asked to provide a review at this location because there was Wifi access. Unfortunately, I can’t state anything else about the rest of the tour at the moment because it is not completed yet:) At the Taj Mahal, Faizan negotiated a photographer for us. We chose to purchase the photos for memories as the photographer new exactly what to photograph and how we should pose. Our driver Bunty arrived to our hotel 10min prior to meet up time and welcomed us kindly. When we passed places along the highway he told us what they were. He welcomed questions. The roads and traffic in India are crazy, but Bunty kept us safe. We chose to skip the last place in the tour because of the additional distance, 1-hour drive from Taj Mahal. This would have added two additional hours to our tour and we were exhausted. We were given an option to adjust the tour and proceed to other locations that were closer, but we chose to receive a “tour” via pictures. Our guide was great at giving us a commentary at the comfort of our table:) Before returning via car to New Delhi, we stopped at a small souvenair shop while our vehicle underwent an inspection to ensure we were safe to return without car problems. We were given an opportunity to shop. We bought a few things there to commemorate our time in Agra. The only negative thing I have to say is the communication with Maria Tours was difficult prior to the tour. The evening prior to the tour I had not been contacted by anyone and our meet up window was between 4am and 7am. Fortunately, I had an iPhone and Wifi and the agency contact was able to receive iMessage. We discussed the change in itinerary from Train to Cab and ensured we would not be disappointed with our tour.

We expected a Street Food Walking...
DAVINA_E
, Apr 2018
We expected a Street Food Walking Tour, our understanding...food tasting the whole time we walked. We made 5 stops, which the food was great, but we walked MORE than food tasting. Walking that far, we should've made more than 5 stops. Hahaha Our tour guide was very nice and informative. He took us on a city tour, which was good. The food we had was great. This should be called Hanoi Street Food and City Walking Tour.

Our tour guide was very good, unfortunately a massive rain storm came in and we decided to take our children back to our hotel as we walked past it as we were all wet through. Other than the weather, it was excellent.

Amazing tour of Hanoi's street food scene. Our guide Lucky not only helped us navigate the hectic streets but also brought us to hidden gems that we would have otherwise missed. The food was delicious and we had a fantastic overall experience. Would definitely recommend doing this tour if you are in Hanoi!

Nothing wrong with this...
Martha_T

Nothing wrong with this tour....fairly standard walking food tour. Tried the must have' items including the famous Egg Coffee. Roof top venue for this last stop was wonderful and the coffee while super sweet was enjoyable. That said we preferred the standard Vietnamese coffee to egg coffee and drank loads during this trip. Our guide Tham was nice and informative. The walk along the railway line was eye opening as we saw some of the poorer area and how people live.
