Hobart cruise excursion

We were a group of 9. No fault of the tour but the weather was rather miserable the day we were in Hobart. The guide made the best of it. Richmond was a cute little town but it was raining so hard it was not very enjoyable for leisurely walking around. We enjoyed the Bonorong wildlife sanctuary despite the rain. Unfortunately we didn't get to go to Mt Wellington for the fabulous views since the clouds were so heavy visibility was zero. The guide was friendly and informative.

Hobart a refreshing change from big cities

Great views from the top of the mountain. Highly recommended vs a shore excursion from the ship. Downtown Hobart is worth walking around in.

Wellington on a clear day, magic

Really enjoyed the stops, the bus not so much. A very small bus which was full, packed into like sardines hence very uncomfortable with leg problems and I thought that we would have had more of a commentary whilst on the way. Of course this may have been that the driver was not a regular driver due to the cruise ship being in.
Mt Wellington was beautiful, a lovely clear day which is rare and Bonorong is wonderful. Such good work done there and the surroundings are lovely, very Aussie.

Rainy but Wonderful

Our tour guide was amazing - friendly, funny and knowledgeable. As it was pouring rain, Mt. Wellington was a "no go." Instead we spent more time at the remarkable Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (where we got to pet and feed a wombat, wallabies [some with joeys], see a Tasmania devil romp around and take pictures with a sleeping koala), and awesome Richmond (where we had a great meal and beer at the hotel). On the way back, we got a fantastic and enlightened tour of Hobart.

The guide met our Viking Cruise at the Hobart Terminal. Since it was raining at the beginning of the tour, our guide adjusted the stops so that we were able to fit almost everything in without getting soaked. We made every stop before the Viking Cruise tours arrived at each stop so we had no crowds to contend with. It was a great tour and we enjoyed our guide very much.

Overall this was a very good and informative tour. The highlight has to be having interaction with the kangaroos. they were so tame we were able to touch them. Richmond was an interesting little town, we visited the Richmond Gaol, and had time for a nice lunch at the Bakery. The only disappointment was not getting to the top of Mt. Wellington because of the mist, we stopped at another sight seeing spot. Tours around Tasmania did a great job.

The bus had trouble....
Frances_Janet
, Feb 2020
Tour was good but our driver was really struggling with a bus that was in poor mechanical condition which in particular made the drive up to Mt Wellington very noisy and a bit worrying at times. The wildlife park was a great experience and nice places to grab a coffee and some nice craft shops in Richmond.
Response from Host , Mar 2020
The bus is certainly a bit underpowered, and the trip up Mt. Wellington shows it up. The rest of the trip went well, without any problems. However, the vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition, but, as with all things mechanical and electrical, even the most reliable equipment can develop faults. We have since discovered a small leak, in a small plastic pipe to the turbo-charger, which caused the turbo charger to cease functioning, which caused the engine to have even less power than it normally has. The bus did not "have trouble", as indicated in the title. It developed a minor fault which caused the trip uthe mountain to be a bit slower than normal. It did not break down and nobody was stranded. Claiming a bus is in "poor mechanical condition", when not undersanding the problem, is irresponsible.

Enjoyable Tour

Our tour guide Gerald was extremely knowledgable and friendly. We were met at the cruise port terminal and taken to our vehicle just outside. The vehicle was modern, comfortable and clean, it also had excellent free WiFi onboard an added bonus. This was a cool dull day when you needed some warm clothing for the trip to the top of Mt Wellington where it was very windy, misty and cold so the view was restricted, just the luck of the draw as Gerald told us the day before it was perfectly clear !! Our visit to Richmond was interesting where we had time for a quick lunch break and then on to the Wildlife Sanctuary again this was an interesting visit where we had time for a leisurely walk around the animal and bird pens. A very good tour I would certainly recommend.
