Returns to original departure point
Explore the sublime scenery and wealth of wildlife near La Jolla during this sea kayaking trip to explore the area’s beautiful coastline and sea caves. Whether you’re a nature lover or simply looking to add a little adventure to your trip in San Diego, this excursion is a great option for kayaking novices and experts alike.

Select from a morning or afternoon departure and leave from Avenida de la Playa in La Jolla. Meet your guide for the trip and start with a short introduction to proper paddling technique and safety instructions. Then bring your boat down to the beach at La Jolla Shores to begin your ride.

Paddle along the shores of the area’s beautiful rocky coastline, heading towards the La Jolla Sea Caves. As you proceed, keep your eyes peeled for any number of marine species that populate this stretch of coastline. Most trips spot a variety of sea birds along with sea lions and seals. If you’re particularly lucky, you may also see dolphins or even orcas splashing nearby.

During your kayaking experience, pass through some of the area’s unique rock formations, journey through the sprawling forests of kelp and get a chance to explore the area’s sea caves (pending current conditions and your guide’s decision). Finish your ride with an exhilarating kayak “surf ride,” following the waves as they push you back into shore.

Please note: participants should be prepared to get wet during the ride. Entrance into the caves is not guaranteed, as it depends on the ability level of group participants, current ocean conditions and the discretion of your guide. The operator recommends participants be at least six years or older and be able to swim.

If I could give this ten stars I would! Our Guide was 19 year old college student and D3 football player Calvin. This tour was for myself, my husband and two daughters 19 &15. From checking in to checking out the entire staff was helpful, fun, professional, and extremely knowledgable. Lucky for us our group had 6 in it, so we got to chat and ask lots of questions. Once we were out in the ocean Calvin pointed out the Tectonic Plates on the shore line cliffs, the different parts of the ocean floor that we were surrounded by. The different sea life that we could spot, or even look out for. Pointing out that the kelp forests help keep the sharks away, and why that is. He was a local that grew up in the area, so he was very knowledgable about the area, the ocean, cliff and the caves. Very Impressed! He had a great sense of humor, but was also very professional! Definitely recommend this company, this tour...and definitely recommend Calvin. The only part I disliked was it coming to an end. We will be back for sure!!!

When we were getting our paddles; Jeremiah asked who was right handed and then told us that we had the wrong paddles, so a few of us walked back to exchange them only to come back being laughed at by everyone. After that, it was hard to take anything they said seriously and they kept trying to be funny still, which made the experience awkward at times. I understand trying to make it fun and lively but making a fool out of people that have never done it is bad taste.

My boyfriend and I were not experienced kayakers. The instructions made the kayaking seem easy but riding in tandem on the waves was hard for us & had us flip the kayak 5 times. It was scary and felt unsafe. One of the tour guides Austin did stay back to help us out, tow us, and instruct us to get back to shore. Without Austin it would have been very unsafe. Austin was the best part of the tour but we didn’t come all the way to San Diego to be saved by Austin lol.
