So much fun!

We had a wonderful time on our trip! We felt safe and were able to see Dolphins and Sea Lions up close. Nora and Tucker were awesome guides and made the trip educational and exciting! Definitely will be returning for another trip.

When surf is rough you will not get to see the caves
Christopher_P
, May 2022
Rough surf all day, known to the rental operators, kept each tour from going into the caves. The operators must know this in advance but only tell you when you are on the water. People returning from the trip before ours told us that the waves were too high to get into the caves, even challenging to get the kayak into ocean past the waves. By all means, rent the wetsuits as we did, you will be wet!

Simone was a great guide! Kayaking was fun and Simone gave us great information about history of La Jolla and environment.

Exciting, but here is how it would be better.

As an industry, these are the improvements that need to be made: Better organization during fitting, example. Inform customer how to put on wetsuit-zipper in the back, etc.,better orientation at beach, specifically safety and expectations from guides, too much kayak congestion out on water(multiple companies), tour ran over time. Most important, difficulty level is misleading.

bad experience

Horrible experience. Vendor confirmed with the booking company then decide to want to split our group. When we couldn't accommodate them splitting us they still charged a cancellation fee. Worst birthday for my daughter.

Wouldn’t recommend

I accidentally booked this for the wrong date and I tried reaching out for a refund, as it states refunds are offered, but obviously that’s not true because I was never offered a refund and now I’m out $100.00 for accidentally reserving something for the wrong date. They should offer customers free refunds before a certain date and refunds in general when these circumstances occur. I ended up reserving through a different vendor that offers free refunds anytime. I feel like this vendor stole my money.

Nice trip - enjoyed paddling in the Bay. Disappointed it was supposed to be a cave tour but weather didn't allow.

We had a great time! It was so fun to be out on the water. We weren’t able to get into the cage due to high waves/conditions but the views and lessons were incredible. Luke and McKenna were out guides. I live in the area and will absolutely be bringing more of my friends/family visiting town on this!

Challenging surf - no refund if you can't leave the beach
LAUREN_C
, Mar 2022
Buyer be warned - there is an inflexible no refund policy at any point within 48 hours. My husband and I were excited to participate in our kayak tour experience. We have both kayaked before and I had even participated in this exact tour years ago. For some reason on the day of our tour, we were unable to navigate the surf in the tandem kayak and kept flipping as we tried to leave the beach. We tried to get out a few times but ultimately were unable to participate in the tour. The guides on the beach said that this was a common occurrence. We submitted a request for a partial refund as we understand we took a spot from another potential participant but as we couldn't participate, we thought that reasonable. It eventually became clear (I'll spare you the gory details of the bumbling customer service) that their hard policy is no refund unless you touch sand. TLDR: Over 3 phone calls they 1) they directed me to submit a claim to viator, only to reject it 2) directed me to send an email, to ignore it for 2 weeks (even with reminders). They will provide a voucher for 1 year but if you are out of state, as we were, that is not helpful. Advice to the owner: 1) advise your customer service to be straightforward with your no return policy - feet touch sand, no returns. Don't waste peoples time 2) Remove your "I can't refund you since your funds are with Viator" from your script - you are going to reject the Viator claim anyway so why waste peoples time 3) revisit your refund exception policy for out of state participants. You can give guests in a similar situation the option of a partial refund or full voucher

Don't Book with Viator!
Michelle_R
, Mar 2022
We will never book an experience with Viator Again. Here's why: 1. They did not give us the address for the tour, which wasted precious minutes before we finally made it to the ocean. This meant we had to go door to door among tour locations in town to find out where we were booked. By the time we arrived, the tour was already underway at the beach, which was a 10 minute walk from the Everyday California store. 2. Poor communication: we weren't told how early to arrive, what to wear, what supplies we could (or shouldn't!) bring, how to protect our glasses and phones from the waves. 3. Booking directly with the tour operator might have given us better directions and advice. Viator as a middle man made this an unnecessarily disappointing experience. 4. This is not about the tour provider. Their staff made their best effort to make it enjoyable and next time I'd go directly with the tour company, which was called Everyday California.

Amazing

Our tour guides were Josh and Max. They were great. If I came back I'd probably do this again. Very laid back yet fulfilling experience. The guides play a big role in making it so comfortable. They deserve all the praise (and tips).

Awesome and knowledgeable guides. Beautiful scenery. The water is awesome. It is worth it to bring a waterproof camera or good waterproof phone case with a lanyard.

Best experience ever

The staff was the most amazing people, our tour guide was amazing, fun, professional. Our experience was absolutely perfect. The scene was totally worth it. We’ll be back to over and over again. Other rentals around were rude and careless so, this place treated us so well. 5 star 5.000 times.

Disorganized
Meenu_K
, Aug 2021
Very disorganized. Charged extra tax since booked through viator. Wouldn't give extra locker even though booked 4 people - 2 couples. Only Bathroom was not clean. Tour leaders were nice but the whole arrangement was very subpar. The red boats, their competitor, seemed better organized.
