Leaving the market behind, climb the stairs up to New York’s newest superstar attraction, The Highline Park. Built along what was once an abandoned elevated railway line, this transformed green space today offers a 1.45-mile (2.3-kilometer) walking strip offering great views of nearby attractions like Chelsea Piers, and the slick Standard Hotel that now towers above it. You’ll also hear details about the Highline’s construction, including controversy created by local residents.

After finishing with the Highline, proceed into the Meatpacking District. This formerly gritty area that once housed the city’s meat processing industry today is home to some of its trendiest retail and nightlife businesses.
