A Lot of Fun!!!

We had so much fun doing this tour. Oscar took us to the market and showed us some of the fruits & vegetables from the region as well as spices & chiles. We then went back to his place. We make 3 salsas, mango ice cream, Avocado Soup, a mole with capers, fresh tortillas. We also made a tea from an herb. We were paired up with 3 lovely people from Canada and we all participated in making all the food. I wish this website was working & I could upload the photos. We then sat down and Oscar & his worker served us all this wonderful, delicious food. Oscar taught all of us how to make this delicious food. They served us Coronas & a shot of Mezcal. Oscar will also ask his participants if they have any food allergies, if they are vegetarian or vegan & he will adjust the menu accordingly. We highly recommend this tour and we would definitely do it again.
Must-do experience 🙏

Definetly worth the experience. Oscar and his team will give you a complete overview of Mexican culture through oaxaca’s rich food history and diversity. Most importantly, the cooking courses will allow you to choose which menu you will prepare while respecting your diet (gluten, veggie,…). When done cooking, you will enjoy your menu (which is close to a dégustation menu to be honest) on the patio with beverages included. Go for it, it’s a no-brainer.

I will start by saying that you can find the same experience in their website 20% cheaper. Dont buy it on Viator!
Oscan knows a lot about his cousine. The problem is that it feels like he has better things to do. He rushes you though the market an the preparations. You never fully understand what you are making and he is not very tolerant when you make mistakes.
The food itself was great and getting ot enjoy it with other guests was the best part of this tour. Oscar did not participate of this part, as he was on his computer on the table next to us.
Disappointing

We were very disappointed with this experience and would not recommend it. It felt like our host, Oscar, rushed through the class and wanted it to be over from the start. This was the case both in the kitchen and on the market. The description said that we would gather ingredients on the market but we just rushed through with Oscar giving a very brief introduction to a few products. He also didn’t explain much about the dishes we made, their origins nor the ingredients, flavours and processes and didnt seem interested in answering questions. The class had way to many participants, so much of the time we just stod idle and watched. On the plus side the food was good and the support staff were very kind and helpful, but Oscar’s lack of attention and intererest meant that we didnt feel we got the experience we paid for.
Delicious and Informative!

My daughter, 8 yr. old grandson, and I participated In the class yesterday and could not have been more pleased. Oscar was organized, knowledgeable and friendly. His staff were gracious and agreeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the 5 other participants, 3 of whom were Mexican nationals. Oscar allowed us choice of the recipes that we prepared and the group picked very tasty ones. When the meals was fully prepared, we sat down together at a colorful set table and were offered iced tea that we had made from herbs, or mezcal and cerveza. I was not feel wholly on my game that day, having experienced some sort of GI upset the previous day and night…I had reduced appetite and was also reluctant to eat much. The staff was understanding and provided me with take away packaging to carry food back to our BnB for enjoyment later. I wish I could have fully participated in eating the meal because it was delicious and full of wonderful ingredients. I wholeheartedly recommend Flavors of Oaxaca as a great cooking and cultural experience.
Scrumptious and fun!

Worth every penny! Oscar was amazing showing us the local market, the different produce used in Oaxacan cooking, and was wonderful with allowing us to actively participate in the food-making process. Following the production of what would be described as a "feast", the back patio was decorated with adorable decorations. The whole experience was a blast and one of the high-lights for my husband and I!

This was a very fun & delicious experience! 😋
Enjoyed Oscar, our consumate cook & charming host. We chatted about what WE wanted to cook & eat - and developed menus from there!! Made 6 or 7 dishes! Took off for a great market, and came back to cook! Such fun.. 7 in group. Interactive!😘
Ate together and shared our life and travel experiences! Big, delicious lunch - mezcal & Corona flowing! Bargain!! Highest praise!!💖

It was interesting to see all the herbs and learn about the different kinds of chilies. Especially ones that are local to Oaxaca. It could have been better if the chef was more patient and willing to answer questions since there were only 5 in our class. First impression of the building is not too good since it is run down. He could make it so much better if he was more engaging and gave more details.
Oscar was an amazing cook...
