Nice little trip

This excursion lived up to it's expectations. It's a little exaggerated when it mentions you meet the local "farmers". Where they drop you off, you walk across the street and they walk you around this staged area where guide shows you some different plants, such as pineapple, coconuts, vanilla and cacao. Then you go to this large sit down area where the guide shows how they make the coconut milk, and grind the dried cocoa beans. Then you walk over to the monkey cage. This was cool. They gave everyone a dish with some fruits and seeds. And then the monkeys go "crazy". Running and climbing over everyone. These animals are so light, you will hardly feel them on you. It was really neat. The guides and driver were great. Leo, Santiago, Sergio and Hamlet.

Monkeyland was a blast. Don't get ripped off elsewhere. Best place to buy locally made souvenirs !

What a fun day. Don't wear any sunscreen or insect repellent as it could make the monkeys ill as they do jump around all over people. They give you bowls of fruits and veggies to feed the monkeys. You've got to be careful once the feeding frenzy starts so you don't accidentally step on them. They are so tiny and jump so far and fast. It was an excellent experience and the monkeys are in like a sanctuary. They are not unhappy or in bad living conditions. It's really nice. At one moment I had nearly a dozen on me! They request you don't take photos while feeding as this is where you could accidentally step on a monkey. There is a photographer there who takes plenty of photos for sale. You get to try cacao and coffee beans in various stages. It's delicious. You can our base fresh coffee, hit chocolate, mamajuana with proceeds going to the workers of the jungle. Great prices and sweet people. Why not buy souvenirs and help the folks who actually make them. The next day vendors were asking 2-3x the price for lesser quality goods. It's the best place I've found to buy local, support and get great souvenirs. Keep in mind many are too big for a carry on. So items are best for checked baggage. I learned lots. I enjoyed the whole day. An experience that's just great fun.

Very fun experience that me and my wife were glad we did. Our bus arrived at the designated meeting point on time and we had a fun ride with Leo into the mountains. He was full of jokes. I’d suggest bringing a bag of snacks otherwise they have some light snacks to purchase at the gift shop

Cute Monkeys, but long waits and product sales

Getting to the tour was a long process from multiple hotel pickups to then arriving at the location and in a mix of people doing multiple excursions (ziplining, buggies, etc.) We visited a 'typical' home of a local family, which looked very 'staged' and more museum like. Seeing the cocoa plants and coffee was neat, but our guide Nacho would talk so much and jump around into theatrics that it was a bit much at times. While friendly, he would pass around an item to see or taste, but skip our side of the circle and offer it on the other end,. We had the chance to try good coffee and hot chocolate and then hear a long sales pitch from Nacho about all the products they sell. Finally, we went to the monkey part where we each get a small bowl with fruit and seeds, which attract the monkeys. They have a photographer to take your pics, but I don't think they check to see if the photos turned out well (most of mine had closed eyes etc.) You then have a chance to take pics on your own phones. We go to two different spots and then have to head back out. At the end they show photos on a computer screen and you may purchase a digital package. For 24 photos they took of our family, they were charging $50! I heard them charge $40 to the couple before us. So I'm not really sure how they decide on pricing, but bargain and maybe they'll come down. Ended up paying $40 even though I only liked maybe a few photos. Wish we had a little more time with the monkeys. Overall, this says its a short excursion, but plan on at least 5-6 hours if not more because of all the pick ups and shuffling of people around.

Fantastic time with the monkeys. Enjoyed the personal experience. The plantation experience is repeated to often with other tours. By the time I left the Dominican Republic I had attended four demonstration of the cacao and coffee process.

Being able to see homemade chocolate being made. Feeding the Monkey's was the most exciting part. Tasting the chocolate was good too.
