Return Details

Returns to original departure point
On arrival, meet your instructor to adivse of your ability level—beginner, intermediate, or experienced.

Get up-close to the Icelandic horses, learning about this gentle breed. Descendants of Viking horses brought here in the 10th century, these sturdy, good-nature steeds are known for their tölt, a four-beat gait that makes riding on rugged terrain smooth and comfortable.

Next, watch a short instructional video, don your provided riding gear, and hop into the saddle. Learn to ease your horse into the tölt, and set out behind your instructor. Soon afterward, having watched you riding, your instructor splits you into three groups—beginners, intermediates, and experienced.

Beginners ride slowly over easy terrain, with intermediate and experienced riders tackling more challenging routes at different paces. Just advise your instructor if you want to go slower or faster.

As you ride, soak in the beautiful scenery. Weave through lava fields and moorland, passing volcanic mountains and lakes.

After your trek, savor coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at the stables.

We truly enjoyed our horse tour! It was thoughtfully organized and even more diligently carried out! I need to say that before this tour, I never before rode the horse, so I was a little scared and anxious. Sara and Jenny made me feel understood and helped me in any way possible. Sara who lead our tour was so experienced, friendly and incredibly helpful!! I felt that she just knew exactly how I felt and did everything to help. Thank you Jenny for wonderful warm drinks after to tour and helping me with the horse! We would like to express my bid thank you and my sincere appreciation for this wonderful tour!! Galina and Joel

Excellently organised by friendly people - a norm in Iceland. The pick-up was on time and the return transfer to Reykjavik was well organised. The Icelandic horses are well trained and have a relaxed temperament so a good trip for both the novice and experienced rider.

My youngest became nervous as soon as she mounted her horse so one of the members of staff was happy to lead her round the paddock with me walking alongside (I wasn’t riding) while the rest of the family set off out across lava field country. When they returned, they were all impressed with how enjoyable and informative the trip had been. Very friendly all round.

Beautiful experience. There is an optional route for beginners and advanced. It wasn't too long or too short. Highly recommend. It was my boyfriend's favorite tour of our trip and initially I had to convince him to book it

For me this was the best thing I did in Iceland (I'm a big horse lover). The horses were amazing - very responsive to commands and with really kind temperaments and I managed to do do the famous 'tolt' that this breed is known for. The staff were excellent. I would go every week if I lived closer!!
