Historical Walking Tour of Salzburg
, Oct 2019
We went on the tour on our 2nd day in Salzburg so we already had an understanding of the history of Salzburg. The tour helped bring all this together and learn some new facts. The group was small enough that we could all hear without ear devices since none are provided on the tour. We have gone on other walking tours and always enjoy the amount of information they provide.

Two couples went on this two hour walking tour. Only ten people on our tour, so just the right size to get around the streets and still hear our guide. We saw the most important sites of this wonderful city and our guide’s anecdotes and interesting stories made such a world of difference. Did not feel hurried and Peter answered all our questions. Peter made the difference, a delightful Austrian gentleman.
Lovely way to see some highlights of the city

We have done many tours on Viator. That being said I can tell you this is the worst tour we have booked. The group was to large, the guide would stop at areas to speak and each time it was in a very noisy area. Very dis organized during the walk. We were not able to hear 3/4 of what was being said. I would not recommened this tour. We were very disappointed and felt cheated.

Our guide was great and we learned many things that we never would have known without taking the tour.

The tour was short and sweet, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a very good job of sharing a lot of history and interesting facts. She was also very open to answering questions. Definitely worth the time and the money.

Unfortunately, this was not a good experience for me and my son. Our tour guide was a very nice man, but we couldn't hear him over the noise of the traffic and other people around us. I noticed other walking tour groups in Salzburg had ear pieces so they could hear the tour guide without having to be right on top of him/her. Regretfully, we lost sight of our group within a half hour into the tour when my son and I stopped to take a few quick photos by the 'keys' bridge. With so many people in the area, and no way of knowing which direction they were heading, we were not successful in locating them. It was like they vanished into thin air! We toured Old Salzburg on our own but I don't feel we got the full experience that a tour could have given us. Very disappointing.

Engaging guide, interesting walk through Salzburg old town. Doesn't seem to be a lot of choice regarding tours in Salzburg.

Knowledgeable and friendly guide. Lots of very interesting historical facts about the origins of the city and its development. We would have liked the tour to finish where it began, to help orientate ourselves for the rest of our visit. All in all, good value for money and well worth doing.

The tour operators were very accommodating as we had travel issues to get to the tour and missed the original time slot. They allowed us to go on a later tour -- no questions asked -- and they did a great job. We enjoyed it very much.

June 2017 - I thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour! The guide was very informative and patient with everyone snapping photos and asking all sorts of questions. We saw Mozart's and Christian Doppler's home. My favorite part is when he let us know that a particular courtyard is where Maria Sound of Music got off the bus to meet her employer - George Von Trapp. At the end of the tour he made sure that you knew how to get back to the starting point if you wanted to roam around. We were very disappointed in the Salzburg walking tour on 12 June 2017 at 11:30 am. It was advertised as a 2 hour tour. When we arrived the tour guide said she was going to cut the tour short because it was so hot and we would be tired. She did not ask any of the guests for their opinion of the weather. The tour only lasted for about 75 minutes and was not a very complete tour. Several times, she simply said that some point of interest was over there and pointed and suggested we could go see it on our own. We were very frustrated that she cut the tour so short, since it was not that hot and at that time she ended the tour, it was actually cloudy and quite pleasant.

Tour covered the main sights in Salzburg and was worth doing. It supplemented our own ,independent walking and our guide Helmut filled in many gaps for us. This was an excellent introduction to the Mirabell Garces and the old town. Highly recommend addition of a visit to the hilltop fort

I booked this tour expecting it to be in English but 80 of the presentation was in German. The group was too large and the guide moved too quickly both among the tourists and visitors to the fair in the Altstadt. Several got last or left-behind. Better value for English language tours would be the Euro10 tours offered twice a day by the Tourist Office in Mozartplass.

Horrible Tour! Horrible, horrible. Tour said it was in English, little did they mention they will do the tour in every language for the people they put on the tour. So our tour was done in English and German. Tour guide spoke in English, then repeated every thing she said in German for the very small party of Germans that were part of the tour. All the English speakers just had to stand there while everything was repeated. Literally, half the tour is listening to the tour guide translate. Would highly recommend you do not do this tour!! I requested a refund 5 minutes into the tour and they were very rude, and denied our request. All english tours I have done have been conducted in full English. Guess they didn't want to spend the money to divide the tour into two groups - one English and one German speaking.

Salzburg is a beautiful city but our tour felt very rushed and there were too many people in our group- over 20. Our guide was interesting and knowledgable but rushed us from site to site. At times, if I took a picture I literally had to run to catch up or I would lose them. He was also difficult to understand. Our tour finished 30 minutes early. If you are expecting anything more than a line or two about Sound of Music take a different tour. Since they mention it in the description we thought there would be a bit more but we were more interested in the city history anyway. The city was amazing, this tour was just ok.

The tour was an overview of the city. Things were pointed out as we quickly walked through the sites. She seemed to be rushed as if she was being timed. Trying to take pictures or ask questions was difficult. Her English could also have been better
