Your guide picks you up at your San Francisco hotel in a comfortable and spacious SUV that is well-equipped to handle both busy city streets and the steep winding road to Muir Woods.

Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, where Muir Woods sits in a deep valley near the Pacific Ocean. Your guide drops you off close to the forest entrance, allowing you to skip the parking hassles at this popular destination.

Have time to explore the coastal redwood forest on your own, with suggestions offered by your guide. Walk to Cathedral Grove to see some of the oldest trees in the area, or take the Hillside Trail for a longer hike. If you get hungry, you can purchase tasty food and drinks at the Muir Woods Trading Company Cafe.

Head to Sausalito next, making the scenic drive to the bayside town. Check out the waterfront restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and views of San Francisco. Your tour ends with a return to San Francisco by car.

Muir Woods now operates on a strict parking reservation system (parking reservation included). Some days Sausalito is first and other days it is Muir Woods. Due to the limited mandatory parking reservations, you must be flexible to visit Muir Woods. Your guide will do their best to get you the most time in each destination.

If you would like to return on your own by ferry from Sausalito, your guide can offer stops at scenic spots such as the Golden Gate Bridge viewpoint or Muir Beach, then provide drop-off in Sausalito to end your tour.

  • ADA handicap passengers: If you are able to bring a handicap parking placard assigned to someone in your group, please message me upon booking. This will get you a better Muir Woods parking reservation.
  • A collapsible wheelchair or stroller can be accommodated in the trunk area.
  • The tour will be refunded if a Muir Woods reservation is not granted by the park at least 2 days in advance of the trip.
  • Parking time is limited and strictly enforced by Muir Woods. Expect 75-90 minutes in the forest. If you overstay, it is a 3 mile walk to the next possible pickup location.
  • If you have children under 8, you must use a size appropriate booster or car seat. Children may not ride on the parent's lap, no exceptions. I have one booster and one adjustable (10-40lb) car seat which you may reserve free of charge. Contact me if you need local rental information for additional boosters or car seats.

Thomas was very knowledgeable and friendly which made for a pleasant drive. Car was comfortable and spacious and it was a great way to skip the hassle of Muir Woods. Only thing I would change is to make the trip a 5 hour trip since San Fran traffic is horrendous. We barely got to spend any time in Sausalito before our time was up. The private tour with Thomas definitely beats sitting on a tour bus for half a day, just wish we would have had a little more time at our destinations.

Tom was excellent. Really flexible because we realised it was Fleet Week so he picked us up at a different location to avoid some of the traffic. Very pleasant and informative. Took us to a great photo palace on the way home above the Golden Gate Bridge. He also took us down the really steep zig-zag street. Muir Woods was worth the trip. Gorgeous forest and a really nice walk. His SUV was also spotlessly clean and easily fitted our party of 6. Happy to recommend Tom

Thomas was wonderful and so easy going. He took us to Muir Woods and even pointed out a few other things. He was very polite and full of great information about the area. He was open to conversation and questions. He also made great suggestions. I loved Muir Woods - it's so beautiful and peaceful. A must do in San Francisco and I would recommend Thomas and this tour again and again - this was a great way to start our trip!

This trip was awesome! We were picked up at our Air B and B, drove around the city a bit. Since we had children with us, he took us to see the Mrs. Doubtfire house as well as the Full House house. After spending plenty of time at Muir Woods, we had some time to spare so we went to Muir beach and we also drove through Sausalito, drove down Lombard Street and went to Coit Tower before he dropped us off to end our day. Customer service was excellent and I highly recommend this tour!!

Brillant tour by Thomas we did the evening tour and got to see the golden gate bridge at nite which was class.He took us to Muir woods and was a full of knowledge about the area. I would highly recommend this tour.

My family splurged on a private tour to Muir Woods and found it well worth the extra expense. Thomas was an excellent guide, knowledgeable about the area and even customized the last part of our tour for us. We swapped out the Sausalito portion for a stop at Muir Beach and Hawk Hill. My little boys enjoyed both places much more than seeing art galleries and cafes in Sausalito. The car Ford Expedition was comfortable and felt very safe going around the curvy hills near Muir Woods. I don't think a large tour bus would be that safe. I'd definitely recommend taking a tour with Thomas from Land's End Touring Company again.
