Start by making your way to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, and then breeze right past the long ticket lines and enjoy a wait-free entrance. Make the most of your vacation time and get started exploring the shows and exhibits right away.

Discover the African Penguin colony; get right up close to the glass and say hello as they swoop and dive through the water. Catch a penguin feeding by the museum's marine biologists, during which they will answer any of your questions about the penguins’ biology or behavior. Visit Claude, the albino alligator and some of his swamp friends while listening to a Swamp Talk by the museum's staff.

Enter the Morrison Planetarium, an all-digital planetarium, for a show that lets you explore the farthest reaches of the universe. Then descend into the Steinhart Aquarium and see live 40,000 animals from the world over, including octopus, seahorses, and jellyfish. Watch divers as they clean the tank and tend to the fish in the world's deepest living coral reef exhibit.

Peel off your jacket and enter the 4-story rain forest. Watch for free-flying birds and butterflies and listen as the scarlet macaws argue over their toys. Check out the spiders, amphibians, and reptiles in the many glassed-in exhibits that dot the rain forest trail.

Note: The Planetarium is currently CLOSED due to Covid-19 restrictions

Covid style, make reservations for rain forest
Joan

My grandson loved the aquarium and T Rex skeleton but it was disappointing to only find out at the rainforest exhibit that we needed reservations. Also the ticket booth did not recognize my Viator bar code. They let me in any way but i I thought that strange

Fun day with the family
Erica
, Nov 2020
My family and I had a great time at the California Academy of Sciences on October 30. Due to covid the academy is only allowed open to 25% capacity for safety reasons. Masks are required at all times and hand sensitization stations are everywhere. I have to say it was the first time we were able to actually see everything since their is always a ton of people. Also with the rules in affect and everyone following them it was a very safe feeling to bring the family. From learning about redwoods, to earthquakes to rain forest to the aquarium it was all a big hit. We loved and were extremely grateful this day of learning tangible science safely. Thank you California Academy of Science for your wonderful staff who all were nice, your healthy food choices to eat lunch and your continued dedication to teach everyone about Science.

Skip the line and save time!

I was hesitant to buy these tickets after reading other reviews about how it doesn't truly let you "skip the line." I'm happy to report that these tickets DO allow you to skip the line. I pulled up the voucher on my phone and I was able to scan it directly from my phone for entry at the "Ticketed Entry" door. The line to "Purchase Tickets" was nearby and was decently full for a Wednesday morning - we didn't have to stand in that line, yay! The only thing that could've been better is the ability to purchase student tickets. You can do this through the California Academy of Sciences website, but not on Viator.

We went early in the morning on a quiet day, no real queues and plenty of space to look and enjoy the wide variety of exhibitions. Favourites included Claude the albino alligator, the aquarium and the shake house in the Earthquake exhibition. I'm giving it four stars though because as it reached midday, it did get much busier and it became a bit trickier to enjoy time when everyone around wanted to see same thing. The restaurant was confusing with multiple queues for different food counters, drinks kept in a different place and another queue for cashiers, some of whom didn't take cash payments. I mention this just for advice on planning when to go and best to bring a packed lunch to enjoy in garden.
