Best Tacos (and host) in Mexico
, Nov 2021
Lily was a dream! She has a very warm and beautiful soul, and was very kind to invite us into her home. She is so informative about everything - from the origin of how Mexicans used to make things to why they changed. Moreover, it’s a fun hands on class and you leave learning cooking techniques and yummy recipes. Some of us were vegetarian in the group and she was very accommodating. Last but certainly not least, the al pastor tacos were absolutely the best tacos we’ve had in both Mexico and New York. It’s very easy to tell that Lily’s love was poured into this food. Cannot wait to recreate these recipes!! We’ll be back soon Lily ❤️
Beyond expectations! Authentic, fun, and delicious.

All of the positive reviews don't do this experience justice - is better than you could imagine. Not only is Lily and her kind team fun and encouraging, the space is inviting, clean, and functional. The recipes actually seem reasonable to make now that I learned all of the steps hands-on and about the ingredients in detail. The food was the best I've had both on this trip and in the region. The experience was so rewarding that I'm hoping to return on this same trip to share in the joy and discovery with my husband and child. Don't miss out. This is an unforgettable experience.

Lily is a warm and welcoming hostess/cooking instructor. Being able to learn traditional family recipes from her was an absolute pleasure!
Abuela Lily is a Mexican Icon!

Lily and her family were amazing host and instructors. Attending her cooking class turns your from a vacationer of Mexico to a traveler. You learn so much about Mexican history and cooking authentic Mexican dishes while she makes you laugh and has you opening your mind to trying new things. This was indeed the highlight of our trip to Tulum and would love to come back just to attend another one of her classes.
Wonderfully unexpected

This was such a wonderful experience! Lily was one of the most kind and genuine humans I have ever met and made me feel at home in her beautiful, colorful, and cozy home. She and her staff (which were also great and very kind) treated us each as a family member and were patient and honestly hilarious. Anybody going to this area of Mexico needs to check this place out!
Great time in Tulum

This was one the most memorable things we did in Tulum! Lily is an incredible host, chef and historian. She knows so much about the culture and truly allows you to appreciate it. We had an unforgettable time and will use her recipes in our home for years to come

Very highly rated!

Lily’s class was such an enriching experience. We prepared and ate some really wonderful dishes and also learnt the history behind, picked up some extra language skills, and left with a much deeper appreciation and understanding of Mexican food and culture. Highly recommend.
Pick up mix up!
, May 2021
Lily is the hostess with the mostess! Mi casa es tu casa is her true spirit. We loved the cooking class and whole experience. What could go wrong with a pick up at the only Burger King in Tulum? Here is a comedy of errors! Error No 1. We were expecting lovely Lily to pick us up. Dudh.. she is busy with food prep for the class so will not be picking up the guests. Bottom line travelers- Do not look for beautiful Lily at Burger King! Error No. 2. Since we could not find Lily so we called the number provided on the Trip advisor/Viator voucher. Please do not call Rivera’s kitchen Tulum at +5219841292690 for tour specific inquiries. This goes straight to a recorded voicemail and you are unable to leave a message. The Burger King employee tried to assist and I paid 50 pesos for his help to reach the number from his phone (since I was unsuccessful with my phone) and esp since he could speak in Spanish. The only way to communicate with this tour operator is through your email Viator reply button, so please check it and reply to the 2 word ‘buenos Dias’ message. Bottom line - do not call the telephone number given to you by Viator. Error No 3. We expected some sign of Rivera kitchen. Travelers please note unlike other tour companies where the vehicle, employee clothing, or placard with company name, or name of guests are visible - for this cooking class there is no signage. Bottom line- you will not see any visible sign of Rivera’s kitchen. Error No 4. We needed to be actively looking for Rivera’s kitchen. It was our fault that we did not approach each and every stranger. Lily sent her handsome son. The boy was chatting with another teenage couple (who would assume teenagers had also signed up for a cooking class too). The 3 millennials were happily chatting away about cenotes under the tree outside Burger King. The boy did not walk around Burger King looking for any other travelers. The threesome seemed like old school friends oblivious to the rest of the world. Bottom line - YOU look for the boy, remember he will not be looking for you. Error No 5. We nearly attempted to find Rivera’s kitchen cooking class on our own. The Burger King employee could see Rivera’s kitchen Tulum site on his phone and suggested we take a taxi who would use google maps to find the home. To our good fortune the taxis were all too busy to stop. A bad situation would have gotten far worse as there is NO way we would have would this private residence on our own. Bottom line- Do not leave Burger King. Remember the old adage - it is always the riders fault and never the horse’s fault!!! Do not expect any apologies from Rivera’s Kitchen. The good cooking, delicioso food, cerveza and mescal will help you forget how you got there.
