After morning hotel pickup by minivan in Veracruz, travel with your guide about 20 miles (30 km) up the coast to La Antigua. An early site of the Spanish conquest, La Antigua is a quaint town full of historical attractions. See the first Catholic church in the Americas, the house of the 16th-century Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés, and La Casa del Cabildo (one of the oldest Spanish structures still standing in Mexico).
Next, back in Veracruz, explore San Juan de Ulúa, a 16th-century fortress perched along a peninsula jutting into the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy the views of the water and inside the historical museum, learn about the complex’s former function as a presidential palace and a prison.

We will continue our journey to San Juan de Ulua, one of the oldest fortresses in America which is also linked to some of the greatest events in the history of Mexico during the Colony,
Independence, Reformation and Revolution periods. It also has played various roles throughout its 400 years of existence. First, it was used as a grain warehouse, and later it was used as a fortress, a prison and as a presidential residence.
