False and Misleading Viator Trip.

The most memorable part of the tour was when I found out the African American Museum AAM was not open. My sister and I spent hundreds on flights and hotel in order to visit the AAM. No one at Viator ever told us the AAM was closed. In fact the tour advertisement mislead us to believe we were going to enter the site from a special entrance. Instead we were taken on a driving tour of all the outdoor monuments that we had seen the day before on the Cherry Blossom tour. I feel we tricked into getting to DC and then being left with no alternative, given a 50% refund to satisfy the false advertisement. To compensate for our expense and disappointment Viator should give us a free tour of AAM and fund half of our flight and hotel expenses to visit the AAM. On a positive note the tour guides were excellent. Jack Robinson

Hi Mr. R, Thank you for the feedback and for taking the time to share your experience. We're thrilled that the tour guides did their work excellently. Regarding the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History being closed during your visit, we are working with all of our travel partners to make certain their descriptions of our product reflect the fact that since November 23rd the museum is closed until further notice. As I stated when we spoke, we are very sorry the museum information did not get to you prior to booking.

Fascinating tour, from MLK memorial to Frederick Douglas house. Tour guide, Dion, was informative and helpful. Enjoyed visiting little known memorials, African American Civil War Memorial and beautiful Mary M Bethune statue. Stopped by famous mural on U street and saw Howard University. Very comfortable bus too.

Cancelled

Unfortunately, we were unable to take this tour. Enough people didn’t sign up so they had to cancel the tour. We didn’t find out it was cancelled until the morning of the tour which was could have been avoided if they left a voicemail, sent an email, or text. Notifying us that the trip was cancelled would have allowed us to make arrangements to do something else.

Great History Tour in DC

We spent 4 hours hitting a lot of locations (Martin King Memorial, Frederick Douglas home-outside, African American Civil War Museum, etc.) and stopped for photos at White House and Capitol Bldg. Last stop dropped us at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, where we were able to walk right in-no waiting. Our guide Dion was very knowledgeable and engaging. I would definitely recommend his tour. Learned so much and had a great time.

Wow! Dion gave us a four-hour tour of DC and it could not have been better. Not only did we have no-queue tickets for the African American Museum (extraordinary) but a highly personalised tour of DC and Arlington with this brilliantly informed commentary. Just the right amount of conversation, information and space to take in this monumental city. I could not recommend highly enough. My 20 and 17 year olds were also engrossed for the trip. Thank you Dion we will be back!

After a bit of confusion as to the start time of this tour, we were on our way. Our guide, John, was fantastic. Had tremendous amount of knowledge to share. Could have easily spent more time with him. There was no reserved entry to the museum at this time of year, so perhaps the company should revise the title of the tour. All in all, worthwhile, would enjoy an even longer tour of African American history in DC. Also, company should provide guides with microphones to eliminate need for them to raise their voices to be heard in the van.
